Below is a note from Howard Phillips on this great movie...I plan to see it this weekend. My friends tell me this movie is EXCELLENT
The Liberal media HATES this movie because it shows soldiers praying and reading the Bible....so we need to SUPPORT IT!

As some of you know, I was involved with the premiere of "Gods and Generals" here in Richmond thru the Museum of the Confederacy. I am sending along this comment, with a hope that you will take in the film. The liberal press has already bashed it, and unless there is good attendance this week, you will not see it on the big screen!

Dear friend,
If you are like me, you seldom go to the movies.
This weekend, I urge you to make an exception, so that you will be among the first to see the greatest American history movie ever made - - - "Gods and Generals".
It is important that you see the movie this weekend, because next week it may be gone.
That's because in this age of moral corruption, gratuitous violence, and degrading, profane "music", there may not be much of an audience for "Gods and Generals"- - - in which case theater managers will pull it in favor of a more lucrative production.
"Gods and Generals" is an historically accurate account of America's Civil War, in which Southerners waged their "Second War of Independence" - - - led by General Robert E. Lee, who was, by marriage, a descendant of General George Washington, the man who led the rebel forces against King George III after the colonies had declared themselves to be free and independent states.
General Lee is faithfully portrayed in "Gods and Generals" by one of America's greatest actors, Robert Duvall - - - accompanied by Stephen Lang, who brilliantly depicts General Stonewall Jackson, a great Christian man whose strategic genius is still studied at military training institutes all over the world.
Carrying out Abraham Lincoln's orders to "preserve the Union" by invading the Southern states, is Colonel Joshua Chamberlain of Maine, played by Jeff Daniels. Mira Sorvino delivers a great performance as Mrs. Chamberlain (even as Kali Roca gives life to Mrs. Anna Jackson).
There are other memorable characterizations by Brian Mallon as General Winfield Scott Hancock, by Bruce Boxleitner as General James Longstreet, by Bo Brinkman, by Kevin Conway, and by others.
Some present day politicians have cameo appearances in the film: Senators Phil Gramm of Texas, Robert Byrd of West Virginia, and George Allen of Virginia, as well as Congressmen Dana Rohrabacher of California and Ed Markey of Massachusetts.
American Enterprise Magazine says " 'GODS & GENERALS' is not only the finest movie ever made about the Civil War, it is also the best American historical film. Period."
This movie is highly entertaining - - - but I am writing to you because it is so profoundly educational.
As the father of 6 children, with 14 grandchildren, I know how hard it is to convey the truth in the face of Left-wing media and the inadequacy and misdirection of the government schools. My wife and I are home-schooling parents.
"Gods and Generals" has been a great encouragement to my family and to all of my friends who have seen it.
Virtually every word, every scene in the film, is historically accurate. It is not fiction. You will see how Americans - - - on both sides of the Mason-Dixon line - - - prayed, how they lived, how they fought, and how they sacrificed.
"Gods and Generals" will afford you a greater understanding of American history, of our U.S. Constitution as originally understood, and of our heritage.
That is why, as Chairman of the American History Education Project of the U.S. Taxpayers Institute, a non-profit charitable and educational organization, I am sending this e-mail to you and to others who I am confident will thank me - - - if they follow my advice and see the film - - - this weekend if at all possible.
Please send me a return e-mail after you have seen the film to let me know what you think. I will be grateful for your comments.
With appreciation and best wishes, I am
Sincerely
Howard Phillips Chairman American History Education Project
It probably was Harper's Ferry; sure looked like it to me, too. The Fredericksburg scenes were actually shot in Harper's Ferry, which was dressed up to look like F'burg in the 1860s. I hike the Apalachian trail in VA and MD, wandered through HF while they were shooting the film there. It was pretty amazing. Asphalt roads leading into town suddenly became 19th century dirt roads by the simple application of many cubic yards of shredded hardwood mulch.
Didn't realize that President, er I mean Senator Allen was in it.
For my fellow Christians who are boycotting the film because Ted Turner paid for it: please reconsider.
First, I doubt Turner is going to make much of a profit off of this--he put $80 million into it and at this writing it doesn't look like he's going to get that back. So by declining to see it you're not hurting him; you're cutting off your nose to spite your face.
Second, anyone can be redeemed, even Ted Turner. He is a vile man, but for some reason he has done a good thing in financing this film. Judge not! Maybe he's somehow working his way back toward the Light.
And third, remember that this film represents Ron Maxwell's vision, not Turner's. You aren't going to see a film that is full of Ted Turner propaganda.

So is Teddy "BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!" Turner...MUD
In the time she wasted saying goodby to her hubby, they could have shown Stonewall Jackson defeating three numerically superior Federal armies in his BRILLIANT Valley Campaign. Instead we had to hear Mrs. Chamberlain drone on endlessly.
I do not have support Ted Turner or his media empire if I do not choose. That is my right as an free-willed American consumer.
Christian values have been appearing in mainstream films more often than you think. If you were to jump in the way-back machine to "Chariots of Fire" (5 time Academy Award winning film, including Best Picture) you would know that Christian themes in movies can survive and overcome in Hollywood with perserverance and prayer. Hollywood is a decadant prision for practicing Christians and working there is as tough as making bricks without straw. Just ask Charlton Heston, I have.
Rather than support just any movie that comes into the multiplex that depicts our religion and Christian living, go and see only the best movies that are made by Christians. This way the quest for excellence will be rewarded because the film and the film making process is yet another form of giving praise for the talents given the director, actors, actresses and creative team.
Seriously, you said it much more eloquently than I.
I was planning to visit Gettysburg this summer. Now I'll have to stop to see Chancellorsville too.
Thanks for the info.
The 4 MILLION+ blacks who remained with the women and children left behind, loyally serving and deserving of our gratitude.
Also, I highly recommend the driving tour - a guide will drive your ride thru the park and take you wherever you would like to go. I got a lot of one-on-one time with my guide. He was a brilliant historian, very kind, and answered ALL my questions. Just my .02.
But without a doubt, the movie is for Christians, the leaders and men pray devoutly througout the movie, without shame or pretense. Lang should get an oscar for his portrayal of Gen. TJ Jackson - he WAS Jackson.
Freepers praises Turner
NEW YORK, Feb 25 (UPQ) _ Free Republic," Freepers" today gathered in their ranks and called on support for Ted Turners New movie GODS AND GENERALS. Freepers setting a new benchmark for being clueless are banding together to pump funds back to Ted Turner for his vision of the World. Freepers were also looking for the soon to be released movie by "soon to be head of the UN", Bill Clinton, in his debut with his new production company, Billy's Fun Family Films. Clinton's film is the historically accurate film of Thomas Jefferson. Freepers are starting their hype machine early. Said one, "The Bible is on a table in every scene and that's good enough for me. Who cares where the money goes?"
Turners long career of hate and bashing of Christians and Americans was conveniently overlooked on the Free Republic today in exchanged for a good flick on the Civil War. This proves again that some people will sell their beliefs for just about Anything, even a movie.
"The United States has got some of the dumbest people in the world. I want you to know that. We know that,'' he said in a speech to an international forum hosted by CNN. "It's a disgrace. I mean there are times when I have been so discouraged ab out my own country.''
And Freepers are not excluded.
It's not a mainstream movie in the sense that there were no Hollywood lunches or star packages or any of that to get the thing funded. That's an important part of this whole thing. Turner provided all the cash.
The Crossing, the A&E movie of Washington crossing the Delaware had none, nada, zilch mention of religion or God. It was distinctly ODD on that basis. THAT movie smacks of the Hollywood way of doing things.
Jeff Daniels played Washington in that movie, as an aside.
