PURCHASE, N.Y. -- An NCAA Division III college basketball player who turns away from the U.S. flag during the national anthem was jeered by flag-waving students at a road game, even while she was on the bench.

Toni Smith, a senior at Manhattanville College, was booed at Mount St. Mary at a game Thursday night.

She is self-righteous. Self-righteous people are stupid.

(The world is full of reprobates. Maybe she's one of them.)

"For some time now, the inequalities that are embedded into the American system have bothered me. As they are becoming progressively worse and it is clear that the government's priorities are not on bettering the quality of life for all of its people, but rather on expanding its own power, I cannot, in good conscience, salute the flag,"

She's right ya know. You never hear of female Iraqi college students turning their backs on their flag.......errrrr, wait a minute.....does Title IX apply in Iraq?

Toni's Favorite Quotes: "If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything."

Smith "what she's doing is courageous and difficult."

Mr CHUMP Smith left off some adjectives.   Let the games begin!   FReegards.

She's got a spot behind the counter at the local Macdonald's waiting. And those politics of hers won't go over there either.

I should also mention that sociology seems to be the chosen field for a lot of self-righteous people. In my opinion, a lot of them are insufferable do-gooders. They are do-gooders because they are guilt-ridden rather than truly good.

I would opine that the liberals are so guilt-ridden that they are inclined to project their own guilt complexes upon the United States. This why they are so weirdly un-American.

There's a lot of emotional pathology masquerading as goodness in our day.

UGLY - No wonder she is trying to make a statement. From what I've read about this, the fans are taking care of her with boos and flag waving.

She didn't say a damn thing. She just made a spectacle of herself. That was her intention and it worked. It's too bad the American Flag had to be her victim.

Like an immature, disobedient child, that should be grounds for punishment. Like be seated at the bench for the entire game. If she doesn't wish to pledge alliegience to the flag that gave her the opportunity to play basketball in the first place, she could at least just stand there silent without making such a fuss. The entire audience shouldn't have to be brought in or distracted by her own problems- they're there to enjoy a game.

"It will be a great day when our schools get all the money they need and the military has to hold a bake sale to buy a bomber." She is one sick kid!

When I was in high school, one of my teachers had a poster that had that in class, me being the smartass that I was told her, that alot of people feel that way all over the world. She thought I was going to agree with her, untill I said "Imagine, all the money going to school, and none to the military, granted, we'd all be dead and our country would be bombed to pieces, but whoever would take over would have one hell of an educational system in place".

Correct. Without a military, "our" educational system would be teaching in another language.

The school president obviously holds the same political position. I've never heard of a college president saluting someone for taking an unpopular position he DISAGREED with.

The young woman exercised her First Amendment rights, and the people publicly scorning her exercised theirs. I have a feeling that her "courageous" statement is going to pay off handsomely in the end, with a nice, cushy position somewhere upon graduation.

If I was the coach this idiot would not be on my team. One of us would go. Either me or the player. And trust me I know what is like to be a coach. I coached high school basketball for 3 years.
