Janeane Garofalo: 'It Wasn't Hip' to Protest Clinton's Wars
Newsmax ^ | Sunday Feb. 23, 2003

Posted on 02/23/2003 12:16:40 PM PST by nickcarraway

Comedienne-turned-peace activist Janeane Garofalo offered a stunning admission on Sunday, explaining that she and her fellow anti-war protesters didn't stage huge demonstrations when President Clinton launched attacks on Iraq, Bosnia, Afghanistan and the Sudan because "it wasn't very hip" to protest the former president.

Asked by "Fox News Sunday's" Tony Snow why peace protesters like herself didn't object to Clinton's wars, Garofalo explained:

"I absolutely did. I did not support Operation Desert Fox. It's just that you didn't know me very well back then. Nobody really was interested in listening to me back then."

Then she added, by way of explaining why the anti-Clinton protests never gelled, "It wasn't very hip."

Garofalo went on to claim that Hollywood actors Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins led protests against Clinton's 1998 Iraq attack, saying that "there was a lot of protest, just as there was against the first Gulf War."

A Lexis-Nexis search for Dec. 1998, the month Clinton bombed the daylights out of Baghdad, failed to turn up a single report that mentioned either Sarandon or Robbins protesting the attacks.

A similar search for the month of Feb. 2003 turned up 124 reports on Sarandon protesting President Bush's Iraq policy.

She impies she wasn't popular then. Seems to me she was at least as popular in '99, during the Kosovo War.

She was a regular on Larry Sanders from 92-97, and she starred with Uma Thurman in The Truth About Cats and Dogs, which was a huge summer hit in 1996. When she claims nobody knew who she was in 1998, she knows that she has been caught lying about protesting the military actions of Bill Clinton. So, taking a cue from her hero, she lies some more to cover her ass. Janeane Garofolo is repulsive. She was much more popular in 1998 than she is today. Same goes for Susan Sarandon AND Sean Penn.

Yes, it's the "ideas as fashion" group... (not the brightest bulbs in the pack)

In other words, the Hollywierdo's don't protest or make a stand based on any kind of moral convictions, they only protest when they want to get attention, and then only if they think its 'hip'.

I bet no one in Hollywould could name the president who said this:

(btw, good call sign)

""Earlier today, I ordered America's armed forces to strike military and security targets in Iraq. . . . Their mission is to attack Iraq's nuclear, chemical and biological weapons programs and its military capacity to threaten its neighbors. . . . Saddam Hussein must not be allowed to threaten his neighbors or the world with nuclear arms, poison gas or biological weapons. . . . . The decision to use force is never cost-free. Whenever American forces are placed in harm's way, we risk the loss of life. And while our strikes are focused on Iraq's military capabilities, there will be unintended Iraqi casualties. . . . Heavy as they are, the costs of action must be weighed against the price of inaction. If Saddam defies the world and we fail to respond, we will face a far greater threat in the future. Saddam will strike again at his neighbors. He will make war on his own people. . . . But once more, the United States has proven that although we are never eager to use force, when we must act in America's vital interests, we will do so."

You're right. They don't care about right and wrong. They care about their side winning. Period.

The deaths of Innocent Iraqis in defense of Bill is OK while any while any action against Iraq to protect this nation is evil.

There's a lot of shallow people in the world, and most of them are democrats...

Protest as Fashion Statement, is that right? I'm glad this dip's on the other side.

That was because Jerry liked her because she was the female Jerry . . .

Of course, resembling Jerry Seinfeld isn't really something a normal woman aspires to.

Hollywood doesn't care about people dying in a war. They care about who's in office when it happens. Or they're so stupid they don't know when they're being manipulated. Either way the bias is sickening. Is it true they don't care about rape if a democrat is the rapist. You can bet on it. And if the racist is in their party, he gets a pass. It's one sick bunch. Period.

I think during impeachment hearings he lobbed a few cruise missiles at Bin Laden's camels and some tents.

You never thought people could be that stupid, did you?

So it's "hip" to hate Bush. It's "not hip" to hate Clinton. OK, I get it now...

You get it:

"Traveling with the Clintons were actor-comedian Sinbad and singer Sheryl Crow, who also boarded separate Blackhawk helicopters for visits and mini-shows with troops based at the most remote Bosnian outposts. "This is the most exciting day of my life," Crow said. "I visited the soldiers and they seemed just happy to see somebody from the States." Two-faced bee-yotch.

In case you missed it, there was an excellent editorial in yesterday's Wall Street Journal about Sgt. First Class Randall D. Shughart and Master Sgt. Gary I. Gordon, who recieved the CMOH posthumously for their bravery in the Mogadishu shootout depicted in the movie "Blackhawk Down." The article correctly points out that these men died needlessly as a direct result of Bill Clinton's ineptitude as Commander-in-Chief. When the medals were presented, Shughart First Sgt. Shughart's father reused to shake the Presiden't hand, telling him to his face "You are not fit to be President." The thread is here:

The book was scathing in its criticism of the CIC. In true Hollywood fashion, the movie played down any involvment/observation of the President.

What was hip for pepole like her was to get down on her clinton kneepads.

If she hates our President so much and loves Iraq she should fly there tonight. Maybe she will find some respect for the USA when she sees the bombs falling.
