Janeane Garofalo: 'It Wasn't Hip' to Protest Clinton's Wars

Comedienne-turned-peace activist Janeane Garofalo offered a stunning admission on Sunday, explaining that she and her fellow anti-war protesters didn't stage huge demonstrations when President Clinton launched attacks on Iraq, Bosnia, Afghanistan and the Sudan because "it wasn't very hip" to protest the former president.
Asked by "Fox News Sunday's" Tony Snow why peace protesters like herself didn't object to Clinton's wars, Garofalo explained:
"I absolutely did. I did not support Operation Desert Fox. It's just that you didn't know me very well back then. Nobody really was interested in listening to me back then."
Then she added, by way of explaining why the anti-Clinton protests never gelled, "It wasn't very hip."
Garofalo went on to claim that Hollywood actors Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins led protests against Clinton's 1998 Iraq attack, saying that "there was a lot of protest, just as there was against the first Gulf War."
A Lexis-Nexis search for Dec. 1998, the month Clinton bombed the daylights out of Baghdad, failed to turn up a single report that mentioned either Sarandon or Robbins protesting the attacks.
A similar search for the month of Feb. 2003 turned up 124 reports on Sarandon protesting President Bush's Iraq policy.

I think the missles Clinton launched after the Cole, or Khober towers attack landed in Afghanistan.
I think that is the basis for Bush's "I'm not going to launch billion dollar missles to hit a camel in the A$$" quote (not verbatim, but that was the idea).

I think during impeachment hearings he lobbed a few cruise missles at Bin Laden's camels and some tents.

I am all for repeatedly slapping anyone, but especially a war protester, who would dare use the word "hip" in any context, at anytime to describe their motivation for anything.

"I absolutely did. I did not support Operation Desert Fox. It's just that you didn't know me very well back then. Nobody really was interested in listening to me back then."Well, someone needs to tell Janeane THAT NO ONE GIVES A DAMN WHAT SHE THINKS NOW, THEN, OR EVER!!!! Now with that behind me, this just proves what conservatives and people who think for themselves have been saying all along.

So it's "hip" to hate Bush.
It's "not hip" to hate Clinton.
OK, I get it now...

In all fairness, if I recall the segment of Fox Sunday, she did admit that she was forming at the mouth.

GAROFALO: Well, they definitely prefer not to have him in. And nobody's arguing that Saddam should be removed, nobody's arguing that the Iraqi people deserve to be liberated. I had a "Liberate Iraq" Sign at the "anti-war" rally and it attracted plenty of flack. There people WERE arguing that we shouldnt liberate Iraq.

To be fair she's critisizeing Hollywood here. She claims consistency, but admits that the protests never really came together because most people in Hollywood only care about being hip.

Does it count as a boycott if we weren't watching them anyway?
To: nickcarraway
i guess that iraqi or US servicemen's lives weren't as important to them back then

when did clinton attack afghanistan? When the Embassies were attacked Bill launched a cruise missile attack against a suspected al-queda camp in Afghanistan (to no effect and probably the proximate cause of 9-11) and destroyed a Sudanese Aspirin Factory.

Actually, I think she's trying to get "brownie points" for her Hollywood career....and that's it.
The funny thing is that this woman has no Hollywood career! She is simply a useful idiot who thinks people actually care what she has to say. Kudos to FOX for putting her ignorance on display for all to see.

Even as a motivation for hip surgery?
To: linn37
Surely you remember, when his deposition tape came out ("depends on what the meaning of 'is' is"), and he had to get it off the front page, and he discovered the great Bin Laden threat, and bombed the Sudanese aspirin factory, and fired the infamous "$2 million missiles at empty tents to hit a camel in the butt"? Several crashed in Pakistan, as I recall, and were recovered.
Not to be confused with the day impeachment was going to be voted, and he tossed a few missiles at Saddam, in the middle of the night while the buildings were empty to avoid hurting anyone.
And they say Bush's reasons for wanting to take out Saddam are "personal", lol.

She's one of the better lefty spinners (that is...fast-talkers) but if you dissect what she says the usual lefty trait is there...
...total lack of logic.
