How would you feel if your company suffered from a european boycott, because of something the Clinton administration did?
Righteous dipstick.
To: HAL9000
You have the best of intentions, but I'm suggesting that FReeping resources should be reserved for situations where it's likely to do some good. Thanks HAL......I know you are right down the street from me.......Please know I know better than letting a towel direct my life. I posted this because a NEW girlfriend who has just learned about FR had to show me the ad.....

I'm in Arkansas, so we're practically neighbors - but I was born in Texas, so that makes us fellow Texans too.

Bedsheets are BREAKING NEWS??
Stop posting while drunk...

This ad ran three weeks ago (to the day) anyway, what are they supposed to do about it now?. I'm sure Stein Mart is already sorry. The French didn't stab us in the back at the UN until after this ad had already run.

Stop posting while drunk...OK Let me pull over and listen to your lecture!

It a country that elects its Government, yes I am. Oh, puh-lease, leave this kind of bullshit for bloody leftists. The first think you're supposed to know on FR is that democracy must never supersede individualism and freedom. Tocqueville must be turning in his grave when hearing this kind of things.

Oh, puh-lease, In a country with free and fair elections the Government represents the people. That's what representative government is all about. That's what gives a Nation its character. If the people, in this case the French, don't believe the Government is expressing their will they change it.
Yes, I hold the French people responsible for the goofy actions of the French Government. They elected it!

Bobby - Many chains purchase ad space (especially inserts like this) literally months in advance. I'd bet that SteinMart hadn't put two and two together (i.e., recognized the french Boycott) before this was in play.I'd strongly suggest more gentle contact, and allowing them to respond before going off on 'em.

If the people, in this case the French, don't believe the Government is expressing their will they change it. Tell this to Spain and Britain. They're perfect examples of why this talk is nonsense.

Speaking of Target, the owners of Target are huge libs.
To: zefrog
It means you're equating the citizens of a country with its government, which is in essence the opposite of what America is supposed to stand for.
Uhm, unless it is a dictatorship, this is essentially the same thing. It hurts me to write this when I think of our previous president, but it's true, a democracy/republic represents the people.
To: zefrog
Could you please provide support for your assertion that around 70% are opposed in France and it is 80-90% in the UK? I don't believe you. Further, I definately recall polls showing different European countries' attitudes towards the U.S. and I recall Germany and France weren't too friendly towards us. (The Economist May or June 2002)
To: jwh_Denver
How would I feel? I would feel that we needed to get rid of Bill Clinton. The point of a boycott is to chagne the governments position. Piss off enough business people and the governemnt will change its position.

Do you know something we don't?
To: zefrog
Please support your assertions with evidence. Thanks.

Here you go (MSNBC): In Britain, Blair has seen a steady erosion of support. Three months ago roughly half of all Britons would have supported going to war without a second U.N. resolution; less than 10 percent would do so today. So far, Blair has made little headway against that tide. Over the next few weeks he will continue to argue the need to get rid of Sad-dam on humanitarian grounds, even though he got a serious rebuff last week when the spiritual leaders of Britains two largest Christian denominations said they doubted the moral legitimacy of the war and shared a deep disquiet about it.
