This is what Ebert said in his latest review (on Gods and Generals):
"Here is a Civil War movie that Trent Lott might enjoy .... it waits 70 minutes before introducing the first of its two speaking roles for African Americans"

Boy you just got here, huh? You're FReeper #100,077How do you know this? How do I find out my number? Who was the first Freeper? Did the 100,000th Freeper get a prize?
To: Tamsey
Well ... I must confess I have not seen the movie and therefore I cannot discuss the validity of the review article per se. I was just struck by the opening remark. It seemed not just gratuitously mean spirited, it seemed downright stupid. But, then again, I have been seeing this kind of ad hominem stuff more and more.
I have not participated here before ... but I was peripherally aware of the Free Republic. After reading this review I thought I'd see if others had the same reaction I did and I registered and posted this. That's all.

Why is it so simple-minded? They reduce everything to black and white, but still they claim to see all the shades of grey! That is an excellent observation.
You missed the War of the Lott Affair here my friend....plenty of FReepers would have cheered him on then. Not too many will admit that now.
How true!!!

Oh, I'm sorry. I thought you were one of the leftists from Democratic Underground. When someone quotes something critical of Republicans along the line of "Republicans are racists" or "Republicans are Nazis," and when that person just signed on to Free Republic that same day, we often assume the person is left-winger trying to cause trouble. I didn't know you were disagreeing with Ebert's statement.
I apologize.

Ebert is perhaps the best known and most influential movie critic in the country. When he starts a review of a movie with these words, I see it as something far more serious than when some illiterate, who does not even know the true meaning of the word, calls his opponents nazis.

Thank you. This "shows to go ya" that FreeRepublic exploded in popularity over the last couple of years.
To: Oldie
You know, the movie with grand Kleagle Senator Byrd klansman.
But it's Republicans that are racist.

When old lefties start getting ignored, they tend to over react.

I apologize also.... It's just that your "MO" looked exactly like the typical liberal hit-and-run we see here frequently.
It appears to me that Ebert is a liberal that has jumped on the fashionable bandwagon... using his celebrity status to try to make conservatives look racist and warmongering. There is now a long list of such individuals, some that I used to respect for their talent. No more :-(

ebert is very, very touchy about anything he perceives as criticism of Africans because his wife (or live-in?) is black. (He always gripes if the villian in a movie is the least bit darker complected than others in the movie.) He has always maintained liberal undertones in his reviews for as long as I can remember seeing (or hearing) his vomit, which dates back to the early 80's. He is IMHO, a big fat ignorant biased liberal idiot.

Question... does anyone know who the 100,000th Freeper was?
