*** [T]here are serious risks, some beyond the U.S. military's control *** "There is a 100% chance he will try to use chemical and biological agents," Peters says. "And the sad thing is, he will try to blame it on us and there is a substantial portion of the Arab and Muslim world who will buy into that. ***"

I have been making the same prediction on FR for weeks. IMHO the Bush administration needs to be talking about this scenario. Time to shout this from the roof tops.

Wouldn't the first move be to send in the 101st airbourn
units to secure the Iraqi oil fields? Preventing them from being lit up would be huge. It shouldn't take much to capture them if it's done in the dark of night.

It doesn't matter!
They will blame this on America, no matter what!

And the arab "street" bums will believe it!

We don't know much French down here in Alabama, but would your tag line translate to 'cheese eating surrender monkeys'?

For Pete's sake, Saddam used that in Gulf War I either accidently or on purpose. Why the US doesn't call the Gulf War Syndrome, I don't know.

My prayer is that Saddam pack his bags and exit. However, if we should invade Iraq, it would be wise to establish an interim U.S. government as we did in Japan after WWII. The cost of administering and defending that government would come out of Iraq oil revenues. With the U.S. occuping Iraq and Israel on our flank, we'd be putting our Muslim and European enemies on notice.

there is a substantial portion of the Arab and Muslim world who will buy into that.

Not to mention the America haters here in our own country.

The 101st should be getting there any day. I would say that securing the oildfields from Saddams agents of sabotage is high on their priority.

Interesting piece..I think it;s the first one I've reead that draws a comparison between an attempt to capture Saddam with the mission to take Noriega..

I call BS on not destroying his army. Conscripts, maybe, but we want the republican guard obliterated.
