Likely that Sometime Tomorrow FR Should Get Its 100,000th Registered User
02-20-2003 | My Vanity

Less than 170 registrations to go, and they go pretty quick.

(Of course the 100,000 number includes a lot of abandoned screen names, Zots, banned users, lost passwords, duplicate accounts, names changes and the like, but still, we love celebration round numbers and 100,000 is pretty darn round.)

The 100,000th should go to some 'honorary' purpose. JMO..

Dunno how that would get pulled off though. I'm sure Admin could figure it out if they wanted.

So, should I take out some "sleeper" IDs now and save them for a year, and then use them during the 2004 election to post anti-Bush comments without evoking the "registered on" retaliations?

No, that doesn't happen here, does it?

Good reason FR attracts so many people. It's just about the most interesting thing on the net!

Maybe it sounds sappy, but how about making the honorary 100,000th Freeper one (or all) of the Freepers who died in the 9/11 attacks. I know of Barbara Olsen and BCM, but were there any others? Their deaths were the supreme sacrifice in the battle to keep our republic free, so why not honor them on Free Republic? If not that, then how about the U.S. military?

Umm, no.

But take it from me, you really should proof read any vanities you post a lot more closely than I did this one...

It would be pretty neat for the president to register as number 100,000. I know his internet use is restricted, maybe even forbidden. It seems like he could participate in a moderated thread which would be something like a press conference. One thread only. Release a transcript just like any other talk he gives. I wonder if that's against the rules. He probably wouldn't do it even if it's allowed, but it would be fun.

I sincerely hope, that before this decade is out, that we will be celebrating our 1,000,000th member here at Free Republic. This website has such potential to change this country for the better. Once we hit a million members, we will have the numbers to start influencing elections across the country. It can be argued that we already are, but what a force we will be once we hit that million mark.

This is big but we've really won when a group of wealthy left wing, half-witted democrats announce the set-up of their own "progressive" website to counter the indomitable Freerepublic!

I like your happy vision.

Given the typical lurker-to-poster ratios of 10:1 to 20:1, FR may already have reached a million people.

Here's something I've never seen before

http://www.freerepublic.com/perl/profile?u=99840

BigBird1 signed up 2003-02-21.
This account has not yet activated.

There's been 8 new users in the last 25 minutes or so. My prediction is looking pretty good right now.
