Fellow Freepers. We all saw the 0.016% of the population that feels strong enough to walk around the city with signs and protest America this past weekend.
I'm wonder if we, the other 99.983% that stayed home or went shopping or cleaned the basement should start to show some sign of solidarity and support.
Of us that stayed home, surveys show that over 70% of us support military action against Iraq with or without UN approval.
Anyone know of any effort to either gather, or in any way signify publically our support? I'm wondering if wearing a yellow ribbon would catch on and/or if it's already being done.
What do you guys think/know?

You are a Freeper who is thinking on his feet!

Haven't heard of anything like this, but it sounds like a good idea. Let's face it - for people with real lives it is not as easy to spend the better part of a day marching and chanting (although I did it right after the 2000 elections several times).

I've had a purple (long, narrow) forked banner hanging under my American flag since 9-11-2001. I think the color should reflect valor, and heroism because that is what it will take to make this current quest of disarmament a success. The Purple Heart ribbon is the color I picked to send my message 'Never forget 9-11".

Yellow ribbons originated in a song about being welcomed home from prison, then as a sign of hope for missing loved ones. The US won't mourn its way to victory. Support the military and fly the Stars and Stripes.

I just browsed the other thread about yellow ribbons and there is an issue with the color yellow.... it's for supporting the troops themselves and bringing them home safely... which is absolutely fine.
My motive is more of one to show support for Bush and military policy on Iraq.
Purple sounds good... but isn't that already been doing by some leftist group?

Would not be caught dead with any kind of ribbon, especially a yellow one.

How about good old fashioned red, white and blue to support President Bush and our troops along with flying the American flag? Michaels and Hobby Lobby have plenty of ribbon that is red, white, and blue!

Yellow ribbons are so 1970s, Jimmy-Carterish. Flags are som much better.

How about a simple red white a blue ribbon?

Much of our public's problem is that they have been excused, by the federal government, from being involved in the war effort, as part of the Bush still running the Clinton Administration plan to appease the Democrat Party.
When President Bush must start up "the engine of democracy." He should have done it at the start, to involve the willpower of the people. And now, we are approaching a point where we desparately need to have it started.
Free Republic is largely populated by people, if the "engine of democracy" were running, would be the first to apply for jobs directly supporting our material support of the war effort.
Yet we wait.
In New York, immediately after Sept. 11th, "the authorities" turned away volunteers because the unions complained, and won, when they (as usual) viewed the crisis as one of economic opportunity. Thousands of very skilled volunteers were turned away by the gubmint, "We don't need you. Government has it under control."
The American public is being steered around by city hall instead of its willpower employed to defeat the bad guys.
Because we don't want to upset any soccer moms, nor any union stewards.
Just like the mess surrounding the Dept. of Home-land-a-job Security, any and all prospects at being a part of "the engine of democracy," are regarded with caution because of instead of digging into work, the lawyers and politicians must first resolve the redistribution of all the profits.
Then maybe we'll get around to supporting the troops with more than yellow ribbons.

I'm starting to remember why I get fustrated with this board.... no one sticks to the topic at hand.
One more time... as a show of solidarity and support for the Administration's position on Iraq... do RWB ribbon's and/or pins sound like a good idea?

I've also heard it used as a symbolic message that God welcomes us into his fold, even when we feel most unworthy. Just my two cents.

Flags.....I've noticed on my walks that more and more people are hanging them out again, like after 9-11. But, maybe we need a concerted effort to hang them out EVERY DAY, once the WAR begins, until we're outta there! Besides we could end up in a battle of "ribbons"....one for pro-liberty, and one for anti-war (they'll choose purple or something).....where if we do flags, or RWB....no one can counter that.

I'm getting red, white, & blue ribbons and tying them on my cars and in my front yard. I also fly my flag high.

"Yellow ribbons originated in a song about being welcomed home from prison, then as a sign of hope for missing loved ones. The US won't mourn its way to victory. Support the military and fly the Stars and Stripes." Exactly. No half-mast, no yellow ribbons. Full throated RED WHITE AND BLUE!
