Pen-pal service for our Military?

Posted on 02/18/2003 7:06:04 PM PST by photogirl

Does anybody know of a good Pen-pal service? I have not been able to locate one in any searches. I found one that looked good, but it was taken down because people were abusing the soldiers (what has this country come to?) Anyway, please help, I want to show my support. Thank you.

Welcome to FreeRepublic.

I saw your profile, and am pinging three Marines who might know.

Why don't you take a visit to the FR Canteen, and I am sure that you will meet someone who can help you there.

I am committed to that site.

My son also serves, and I wish to contribute to his morale.

It is a good place with an awesome message and goal!

Hey, I've been trying to contact 2 friends who are marines-reserves- emailed them over a week ago and gotten no response- apparently the "status" on their email shows that its not read yet- is it really difficult for the military to get their regular email over in the gulf because of limited computer time? Any suggestions how to contact them?

Don't know (never having been there or done that), so I'm re-pinging three who would.

We're getting a bunch on FReepers that know and/or have contact with military personnel to email their military friends with a question: "What would you like to say to the peace protesters?" The responses will then be read aloud (With a bullhorn) TO the peace protesters at all Operation Infinite FReep counter-rallies.

If you have any friends serving out nation who have had enough of the peaceniks, please ask them if they can help. Thanks!

If they are deployed, they may not be able to reply due to EMCON or MINIMIZE.

EMCON stands for EMmissions CONtrol. It's a posture ranging from EMCON Alpha (light off everything to your heart's content) to EMCON Delta (do not transmit any electromagnetic signals, be they radio, visible light, infrared, or anything else). That posture is dictated by the tactical situation and the local commander.

MINIMIZE is "do not send unnecessary traffic." It conserves communications bandwidth for important stuff, and nontactical messages/emails do not get sent.

I asked one guy about that today. He said, "I'd like to thank the protestors for proving, once again, that the First Amendment gives one the inalienable right to demonstrate one's own stupidity in public."
