Peaceniks try to hijack the heartland with an impromptu rally in Plant City, Florida.
I saw them on my way to the grocery store and I came home immediately to get the word out. I then put together a sign...I actually carried a dry erase board around...with the words "Pacifist are the Parasites of Freedom". On the other side I had "Saddam is a Terrorist".
There were twelve Peaceniks in their traditional garb with their traditional slogans and symbols. As it turns out the organizer was a young woman that was home from college (Emory University).
They intially thought I was with them and gave me an American flag, but after they read my sign they asked for it back.
They were interviewed by the news and a couple of newspapers, but I was not. The Bay News 9 cameraman zoomed in on my sign, but I don't think he was interested in the FReeRepublic.com portion of my sign.
I had a good time, and many people honked for me. One man stopped and gave me a big handshake and thanked me. I gave my number out to a woman who was interested in getting a bigger counter protest together when these people rear their ugly heads again.
Freegards,
I got the rope
Great idea!
Think I'll get one to keep in the car, just in case.
Hmmmm ---- could it possibly be because those reporters were biased? I'd hate to think that the media would not give full and fair coverage to all involved! Could I be dreaming?
BTW -- Way to go!
Wait a minute! You didn't mention booze and dancing girls at the last FReep I saw you. Sheesh.
Oh, and where is the HQ?

(I go to Lakeland to visit my father. There is a BBQ place we frequent near Plant City. Great ribs!)
The same type of thing happened with me.
Here in the Monterey, California area, there was a mock U.S. Marine invasion a couple years ago. The usual Leftist crowd came down from Santa Cruz, joining local Leftists to protest the Marine training exercise, which was an urban warfare type of training in the event of a terrorist attack. (It is ironic this was before the Sept. 11 attack and I did not know of Free Republic at the time.)
The exercise was to begin at the Naval Postgraduate school with a Marine landing and conclude at the Defense Language Institute at the top of the hill.
I made up a big sign that said: "Welcome USMC" in great big letters on top, and in smaller letters below (Clintong was still president); "Liberate us from the Democratic Party Scum." (poetry)
I distanced myself from the smelly hippies about 50 yds. down the street. I was getting waves and honks of passers by (and a few middle fingers, as this is a major Leftist haven). I ended up on the 18:00 KSBW News (6 p.m.) and paraphrased George Washington, 'To secure the peace, is to be prepared for war.'
Of course, the news people neglected to show my reinforcements, who were the 101st Airborne WWII veterans across the street, complete with an olive drab and white starred Jeep, and U.S. flags.
It was interesting that I was approached by two people, one who appeared to be U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer in dark, dark sunglasses. They attempted to intimidate me with sophist arguments, leading questions and physically crowding my space. I finally told them to go pound sand and get away from me.
Did you call them "Indian Givers?"
Good FReep!
I spoke to a British officer that morning while getting coffee at McDonald's prior to the exercise. He was looking at the sign I was carrying and giving me dirty looks until he could actually read what it said. I turned it towards him and his grimace turned into a beaming smile.
