And of course, just because it didn't happen on the 12th, doesn't mean it may not happen in the future.

I think there was a very good reason for the orange "high" alert.

Sorry -- the article itself seems to have duplicated several paragraphs, but there is some more new stuff at the end. and very scary too.

how, exactly, does a hindustan times report about a story that was in the american time magazine and that has already been all over the place qualify as breaking news?

when a story says that it is based on something in time magazine, you can be pretty sure that the original report has gained notice here already, doncha suppose?

I agree - but now I'm wondering if this is why Frist allowed the Senate to recess instead of insisting on a filibuster from the dems - so they could all get their families out of town. Hmmmm?? Interesting.

I'm not so sure the dems would have been this concerned.

And of course, just because it didn't happen on the 12th, doesn't mean it may not happen in the future.

Remember too that 9/11 itself was supposed to occur earlier in the year (sometime in the summer) and it was delayed.

And of course, just because it didn't happen on the 12th, doesn't mean it may not happen in the future.

It also doesn't mean the event wasn't stopped before it happened, which is true in more cases than we know. According to one interview on FNC, they don't publicize their successes very often, lest they give away their methods and informants.

Yet, the media has been strangely silent on this angle, except for Time. I haven't heard it discussed on any of the networks, although one commentator on FNC alluded to it briefly.

Think maybe the duct tape foiled an attack for now? Could be it also foiled the rat filibuster. All those that knocked Frist, and we know who they are, might want to reconsider.

Thanks for an informative article. My personal opinion is that Saddam will determine the time and hour of the next attack, as he did the last time.

Saddam has a strategic objective and a strategic plan in place.

The strategic objective is the defeat of America. Since Saddam knows an Iraqi defeat of America is an impossibility, his strategic plan is to initiate a war between Islam and America.

I believe Saddam is prepared to sacrifice the Iraqi people to achieve his goal.

If Saddam and his surrogates attack first, then the next battle will remain between Saddam and the U.S. and most Muslim nations will respect the United States right to defend itself.

If, however, the U.S. attacks in the next several weeks absent a U.N. authorized resolution(China will veto any attempt to get another resolution authorizing force), Saddam may be successful in igniting a war between the U.S. and a significant portion of Islam, after Israel becomes involved.

Had the Bush Administration been truthful from the start and told the world that Saddam was behind 9-11 and the anthrax mailings and asked for a Declaration of War from Congress and invoked our right of self defense,I don't believe world opinion and old allies be opposing us the way they are today. I believe many in the Islamic world would have respected the United States' right to wage war in self defense.

This PR nightmare of a preemptive war is a tough sale in the world and it plays right into the strategic plan of Saddam , in my opinion.

I believe there will not be another major attack from Saddam's surrogates on U.S. soil until a major offensive against Iraq begins.

I agree with your assessment that the alert was warranted, and, moreover, am impressed that we appear to have thwarted yet another major attack. It only takes one, but I think this and other actions (the Buffalo arrests, for example) suggest our intel people have improved considerably since 9/11.

"All we can do," Vice President Dick Cheney told a gathering of top administration officials to discuss bioterrorism, "is ask ourselves, Have we done everything we can to prevent an attack?.."

How about closing down the borders and ending all immigration from muslim countries
How about quit this PC non Profiling BS
How about ending the stupid WOD and using the manpower to ferret out muslims terrorists
How about getting search warrants for suspect Mosques

NO YOU ARE NOT DOING EVERYTHING and Bush should not get cut a break on this

pointed to a plot inside the US using nerve gas, poisons or radiological devices.

All the more reason for deportations taking place in mass. The liberals have fought this from the beginning. What will it take to make them see what is right before their eyes?

With all due respect to our Vice President, the answer to that is emphatically NO. :( Open borders, profiling of known terrorist groups banned, and the color-coded warning system is a bust. The only place I've ever heard of the changes are here on FR. And citizens aren't told how to prepare. It's as if these threats are NOT taken seriously, or that WE are not taken seriously as helpers in the WOT.

Al-Qaeda is the most lethal of the groups associated with the Sunni jihadist cause, but it does not operate in a vacuum; many of the groups committed to international jihad -- including the Egyptian al-Gama'at al-Islamiyya, Lebanese 'Asbat al-Ansar, Somali al-Ittihad al-Islami, and Algerian Salafist Group for Call and Combat (GSPC) --- offer al-Qaeda varying degrees of support. * FBI investigations have revealed a widespread militant Islamic presence in the US. * We strongly suspect that several hundred of these extremists are linked to al-Qaeda. * The focus of their activities centers primarily on fundraising, recruitment, and training. Their support structure, however, is sufficiently well-developed that one or more groups could be ramped up by al-Qaeda to carry out operations in the US homeland. That story does collaborate this one: http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20030212/ts_nm/attack_usa_threat_dc_2

If they were concerned with an UAV...then the anti aircraft missiles make more sense.

I do see today that they are considering lowering the alert, is that fluff?

An Attack avoided is an indication of a Successful Alert. Congratulations are then due to the Bush administration for his handling of the incident.
