Moderators, please pull if a similar thread has been started. I did a search on "snow" and blizzard" and came up with nothing.
What originally looked to be primarily a mid-Atlantic snowstorm has blossomed overnight into a monster snowstorm that threatens to shut down the major cities of the Northeast for tomorrow.
Just got the latest forecasts. Washington D.C. area will see 1-2 feet. Philly will see 17-34 inches according to their local mets. NYC will see 1-2 feet. And Southern New England (including Boston), which was originally thought to be missing this storm, is now pegged to get at least 10-20 inches before all is said and done with possible blizzard conditions tomorrow night as the storm explodes ("bombogenisis") off Nantucket island during the day.
Some very impressive snowfall reports already coming in despite the fact that the storm hasn't even developed off the coast yet. Some 8 inches is on the ground in the DC area and snow is falling heavily in the Philly area and parts of New Jersey. This snow is NOT from the storm that is expected to develop off the Carolinas this afternoon, move northeast and "explode" off Nantucket Island during tomorrow.
These storms are never a sure thing until they happen because they are so unpredictable. But this storm has all the ingredients to make it a storm of historic proportions from Washington D.C. to Portland, Maine. If everything falls together just right, we could be looking at 2 feet (or more) of snow in many urban areas of the Northeast over the next 36 hours.
Please post your local reports here.

We bought a snow blower last year in order to prevent it from snowing and it worked. So this year we bought new snow boots, but it was apparently not enough and those boots aren't new anymore.

I'm going buggy too. My husband absolutely hates snow. He's gone back to bed! lol Only signs of life here are birds. They've drained my feeders. I may venture out to refill them but it's blowing so hard and it's so cold I might toss some bread out the door and hope they hurry up and eat it before it's covered! lol

They were walkin right past us...makin snide remarks... Being a Red Sox fan, I understand how you feel. But snide remarks always come from jackasses and demonrats, not having our advantage of being highly develped intellects.

I filled the birdfeeders yesterday and it sounds like anoverpopulated aviary in here even with all the windows closed. Can't help but feel for the birds; I sure as heck wouldn't have wanted to live outside this winter.

I have chickadees that eat from my hand. Everytime we open the door for a smoke or to check the snow depth, they fly over and try to land on us! lol
Poor things.
I guess I'd better bundle up and refill the feeders. Wonder how fast I can run in 2' of snow? lol

Doggy potty is one of the most challenging things right now. Take care of your pets that have to go outside. After all, they keep you warm at night. Important to watch their paws ..the paws do not have fur on them so they are subject to frost bite just like your hands and the salt uses on the roads can cause a problem if it gets between the pads..good idea to wash them when they get in.....

I have three seed feeders all on their own clothesline (pulleys) that I can fill from indoors, so filling them isn't a big deal as long as the windows aren't frozen. One of two Suet feeders needs to be reached on foot and my boots aren't high enough for a trip to that one.
Some birds like Cardinals and Carolina wrens are new transplants to the north here and are having the toughest time surviving this winter. And every time I throw seed out under the picnic table for the ground birds, the squirrels get it.

State of Emergency? Why? It'll all be melted down by this time next week in Carolina, Virginia and Maryland. Is there money involved in that designation?Actually yes - a declaration of emergency qualifies a state to apply for federal relief.

I noticed something odd this winter: the Robins stuck around. Now they're freezing their hinies. Where are located?
