Moderators, please pull if a similar thread has been started. I did a search on "snow" and blizzard" and came up with nothing.
What originally looked to be primarily a mid-Atlantic snowstorm has blossomed overnight into a monster snowstorm that threatens to shut down the major cities of the Northeast for tomorrow.
Just got the latest forecasts. Washington D.C. area will see 1-2 feet. Philly will see 17-34 inches according to their local mets. NYC will see 1-2 feet. And Southern New England (including Boston), which was originally thought to be missing this storm, is now pegged to get at least 10-20 inches before all is said and done with possible blizzard conditions tomorrow night as the storm explodes ("bombogenisis") off Nantucket island during the day.
Some very impressive snowfall reports already coming in despite the fact that the storm hasn't even developed off the coast yet. Some 8 inches is on the ground in the DC area and snow is falling heavily in the Philly area and parts of New Jersey. This snow is NOT from the storm that is expected to develop off the Carolinas this afternoon, move northeast and "explode" off Nantucket Island during tomorrow.
These storms are never a sure thing until they happen because they are so unpredictable. But this storm has all the ingredients to make it a storm of historic proportions from Washington D.C. to Portland, Maine. If everything falls together just right, we could be looking at 2 feet (or more) of snow in many urban areas of the Northeast over the next 36 hours.
Please post your local reports here.

It's an incredibly slow mover. So once it starts, it looks to continue for at least 24 hours. It's been bumping into the arctic high, but the coastal surface low is a little slow in developing and the dry slot is moving in quickly. The snow has ended here 75 miles W of DC.
Extrapolating that ENE, I would say 12 hours of heavy snow followed by the dry slot, then lighter snow as the upper low moves through.

Sam is going to have an unpleasant drive.
The snow just started here (16 NM SW of BOS, 6NM 195 1B9) at 8:10. By 8:20 the rate has accelerated and I would guess the visibility is down to a half mile.
_I_ stayed home. As long as there is power, I have some work I can do here.
Weirdly, there was NO butter to be had locally. Popcorn cravings???

So are we through here in Virginia? One report says still 1-6 more inches yet to come but it looks like it's just misting sleet out right now. Those are amazing satellite maps.

Good morning everyone! Weather forecast is for 12-18" on Long Island, N.Y.
Well, I just measured the snow on my deck....it's 11" already! Central Park has 12", JFK 11".
My husband actually tried to call into work to say he wouldn't be in today! lol There's no one there!

Well it's 8:30AM and I'm at the office in Bedford, MA. The snow started coming down very lightly around 7:30AM in tiny, grainy snowflakes. Still very cold but evidently warmer air is overriding aloft. Hasn't started to come down hard yet but there are already swirls of snow dancing in the street outside. Very light traffic out there, even less than what you would see on a Sunday morning. Actually it feels more like Christmas morning. My phone hasn't rung all morning!
I hope it remains a powdery snow throughout the storm as I have drifts 5 feet high along my driveway and it's going to be hard to throw the snow up there if it's heavy and wet. I still don't have a snowblower yet. As long as I have a teenager in the house to help me shovel, I'm going to hold out as long as I can. Besides, shoveling snow is the only real exercise I get this time of year!

My boss called...wanted to know if I was coming in....told her I wasn't... she told me ok. I stood in a snow bank up to my waist to shovel out my Jeep this morning. I haven't seen a snowplow on my street yet. So even when I get dug out.....can't go anywhere.

It started snowing here in northwestern NJ at 9pm last night. Haven't been outside yet. Don't want to -- although we'll all have to do some shoveling this afternoon otherwise we won't be able to get the cars out to go to work tomorrow.

Mary, if it's still snowing tonight as predicted, you may not have to worry about work tomorrow.
