Moderators, please pull if a similar thread has been started. I did a search on "snow" and blizzard" and came up with nothing.
What originally looked to be primarily a mid-Atlantic snowstorm has blossomed overnight into a monster snowstorm that threatens to shut down the major cities of the Northeast for tomorrow.
Just got the latest forecasts. Washington D.C. area will see 1-2 feet. Philly will see 17-34 inches according to their local mets. NYC will see 1-2 feet. And Southern New England (including Boston), which was originally thought to be missing this storm, is now pegged to get at least 10-20 inches before all is said and done with possible blizzard conditions tomorrow night as the storm explodes ("bombogenisis") off Nantucket island during the day.
Some very impressive snowfall reports already coming in despite the fact that the storm hasn't even developed off the coast yet. Some 8 inches is on the ground in the DC area and snow is falling heavily in the Philly area and parts of New Jersey. This snow is NOT from the storm that is expected to develop off the Carolinas this afternoon, move northeast and "explode" off Nantucket Island during tomorrow.
These storms are never a sure thing until they happen because they are so unpredictable. But this storm has all the ingredients to make it a storm of historic proportions from Washington D.C. to Portland, Maine. If everything falls together just right, we could be looking at 2 feet (or more) of snow in many urban areas of the Northeast over the next 36 hours.
Please post your local reports here.

We had "thundersnow" during the April Fools Day blizzard we had in Massachusetts on April 1, 1997. I was walking home in the greater Boston area at night, and could hear the thunder. It was very weird, as the falling snow muffled the sound of the thunder. Never heard anything like that before.

It ain't anywhere near over yet. Such a cheerful thought............. As I sit here trying to remember where the heating pad is for my throbbing arm.

Thnudersnow also occurred during the Christmas storm recently in the New York/New Jersey area. I had the misfortune of being on the Garden State Pkwy near Secaucus while it was going on.

No boat engine yet, but my plow bought a side of black angus for the wife's freezer this morning.
Tomorrow, maybe I can make enough for what I have to send the IRS this year...

Hmph. I'm 25 miles north of NYC and still don't see a thing.I'm about 50 miles northwest of NYC, and I haven't gotten any snow yet either.

Ahhh, there is nothing like the smell of chocolate in the air, a beer and a few feet of snow on the ground. Lovin it here in Hershey.Ahhh, I agree. Except for the beer, lol. I, myself, haven't lived through a snowstorm for a long time since I moved here to Arizona in my early twenties. How I miss it. Only two seasons here. I'm sure some of you probably think I'm crazy to complain.
I grew up in Maryland and my sister there just called to say everything is closed down and school is cancelled tomorrow (and asked for prayer for my nephew who is on his way home from Conn.) Stay safe everyone!

Thanks anyway, but I think I'll pass.

just talked to xshub. they are approaching baltimore, he has no idea what to expect. i told him to just play it by ear once they get there. hopefully, like you said before, the fact that the airport closed so early, all of the hotels won't be totally booked up.

Well it seems the state of Delaware is closed off from the rest of the Country. We're not allowed on the roads, can't get here from NJ and with the State of Emergency in MD, you guys can't get here either.
I'M TRAPPED IN DELAWARE..............someone help
Back in the 1960s, one of the most classic, memorable things the Candid Camera people ever did was "The State of Delaware is closed for repairs today." They set up a road block on a relatively little-used road at the border, dressed in official-looking uniforms, and tried to convince motorists that the ENTIRE STATE was closed today for repairs. It was really funny. Looks like you are finally getting the real thing.

"BTW - Wonder how the global warming nutcases will explain a near-record snow drop?"The true believers in global warming will simply state that all of the following are evidence of global warming: warmer than normal weather at any time of year; colder than normal weather at any time of year; droughts; periods of heavy precipitation of all sorts; tornados; typhoons; fog; gropple (spelling?); hail and heaven only knows what else is all clear evidence of global warming.
I honestly don't know but suspect that a person will need at least a thousand years of perspective to make an informed judgment on the vailidity of the theory and much longer than that for anything resembling proof.

I like it. It looks a bit like my last home in Maryland before I moved to Virginia. Very cozy.

Keep me posted - I've got my fingers crossed for you and them.
The governor has said, again, state of emergency here will not be lifted until at least mid afternoon tomorrow - unless by some miracle this quits over night - there will be no going any where tomorrow - and no plow through here until Late Tuesday is looking more and more like a probability rather than possibility.
I was just looking at the list of closings and cancellations on the local TV website - they would be better off just listing what is going to be opn - it would be far easier. Especially if the SOE's aren't lifted.
