Your uncle had it right. He probably felt the same way I do about leaves.

"Amtrak is running. But even if I wanted to - I couldn't get to it." It's worse when you work there and can't get to work . No work, no holiday pay (Monday is a holiday for us). And to qualify for the holdiay $$, you not only have to work the holiday, but the day before it, and the day after it as well.
Got to run train #66 tonight NYC to New Haven. It comes out of Newport News, and I'm wondering how late they're going to be tonight. If it runs on time I get home at 4am tomorrow (hopefully before too much accumulation here in western Connecticut). And if I _get_ home, getting _back_ is going to be worse tomorrow (sigh). A railroader's life.....
Cheers!

No winter nostalgia here. I grew up in Minn-e-soh-ta!
My connection still isn't cooperating. The clouds must be especially thick!

I thought I just heard the Fox News Channel weather-dude say that Dubya was stuck in a car in the snow for 2 hours today. Washington Pravda has an article that discusses this. The President was trying to get back to Washington from Camp David. Helicopters cannot fly in this weather, so they drove. Normally it is a 45 minute trip - it took 2 1/2 hours.
The President wasn't "stuck," he was delayed on the roads like the rest of us would - though the State of Maryland had a half dozen plows running down Highway 270 about 15 minutes prior to the motorcade. (The White House says it is mere coincidence.)

The weber grill is buried and we could dig the car out every six hours here in Fairfax, VA, called the sweet spot of the storm.

The path I cleared less than 3 hours ago is history - I guess I'm going to have to go out again
Not looking forward to that - my feet are still cold from before.

I'm not measuring just judging how high it was when I was out earlier and how much has filled in where I did the shovelling.
Did the satanist neighbor clear you out?

I have a teenager too. The associations have all changed. Snow used to mean play and fun. Now it means shoveling!

Fox also said DC could get 24"!?With a forecast like that, one would think the Secret Service wouldn't let him go out unless he had his own presidential snow plow leading the way. And even then he risks getting stuck in traffic. You'd think he'd just stay put someplace safer, especially considering current events.

More driveway photos. Photo 1. About noon. Photo 2. About 1:00. Photo 3. About 3:30 after the plow went through at about 2:00.
Number three looks almost like number 1.

A dear friend of mine left California yesterday am for Maryland to visit family. She called this morning in a winter wonderland like she has never seen in her life! Even Churches are closed she said! Wow! What an experience for a native Californian. She thinks it is beautiful, but right now she has no hopes of getting home!

Meanwhile, the "snow" scuptures where I live look more like this:

Hi all,
Reporting in from Delaware County, Pa, Philly suburb. Lots and lots and lots of snow. We did have a plow come on our street twice so far - we parked all three cars in the driveway to minimize the shoveling - and not get buried from the plowing.
Our dog is loving it - although it's getting harder and harder for him to romp through it.

Our grill is out; hubby plans to use it tonight--we're probably in single digits by now (and that's not wind chill). He went to the grocery store today and bought--charcoal. Got strange stares. Hope you get dug out ok. Now's a great time to have teenagers.

What is it about cooking when there is a storm outside?? The need to nurture? Maybe to survive?
I like to make soup - either pea soup or corn chowder. The snow isn't here --yet. It is coming later on and will go into tomorrow and tomorrow night. I think I will bake bread tomorrow, if only for the aroma.
