Moderators, please pull if a similar thread has been started. I did a search on "snow" and blizzard" and came up with nothing.
What originally looked to be primarily a mid-Atlantic snowstorm has blossomed overnight into a monster snowstorm that threatens to shut down the major cities of the Northeast for tomorrow.
Just got the latest forecasts. Washington D.C. area will see 1-2 feet. Philly will see 17-34 inches according to their local mets. NYC will see 1-2 feet. And Southern New England (including Boston), which was originally thought to be missing this storm, is now pegged to get at least 10-20 inches before all is said and done with possible blizzard conditions tomorrow night as the storm explodes ("bombogenisis") off Nantucket island during the day.
Some very impressive snowfall reports already coming in despite the fact that the storm hasn't even developed off the coast yet. Some 8 inches is on the ground in the DC area and snow is falling heavily in the Philly area and parts of New Jersey. This snow is NOT from the storm that is expected to develop off the Carolinas this afternoon, move northeast and "explode" off Nantucket Island during tomorrow.
These storms are never a sure thing until they happen because they are so unpredictable. But this storm has all the ingredients to make it a storm of historic proportions from Washington D.C. to Portland, Maine. If everything falls together just right, we could be looking at 2 feet (or more) of snow in many urban areas of the Northeast over the next 36 hours.
Please post your local reports here.

That's more like it! 2 feet of snow all at once. Everybody stay home, and remember, dogs like snow, too.

The map FNC weather was just showing has my area getting 4-8". I hate to tell them we've already had more than a foot. Same thing happen here. A band of snow stalled right over us and we got plastered for about 3 hours with it.
Last I heard the storm had not even reached Trenton.

Decided I'm not going to work tomorrow Yeah -- hubby works in Doylestown and he's not going in either -- esp. since it's supposed to keep up all night -- my daughter's wondering if she'll get a snow day tomorrow (we're homeschoolers) -- I figure she'll have to make up some P.E. credits (shoveling) -- I'm sooo mean !

I would estimate we've received 60-70 inches so far.I don't even want to THINK about what our total accumulation has been this year. That would be REALLY depressing!
A couple of years ago, I was a Co-leader for our youngest son's Cub Scout Den, and for one of their woodworking projects we had the boys make Snowman measuring sticks. We put it out last year and it was pitiful the amount of snowfall we had. I went looking for it this fall and could NOT find it! It would be interesting to see the numbers, but it only went up to 36", so maybe it's best that I DON'T know!!

i asked the snowblowing satanist across the street and he said it was 11 inches a few hours ago when he was out, and it has not stopped since. i am not venturing anywhere near the outdoors to measure, so i rely on hearsay!

Your husband is smart. We live right outside of Doylestown. Several years ago during the deep snow, I left work in Willow Grove, drove up 611 to the Doylestown exit and it took me 3 hours. I was one of the lucky ones. My car was the only one that made it up the hill there at the Naval Air Station for the hour I sat there watching. I don't mind driving in the stuff, but they've stopped clearing the roads properly around here! Tell the kids there are advantages and disadvantages to everything. They might get out early in summer, but they don't get snow days! Hope they enjoy the weather!

Hope they enjoy the weather! Nah -- they're teenagers, sadly a bit past the "snow is so much fun" stage -- now they just lock themselves in their room and IM all their friends :)

It's hard for me to tell if it has slacked off here, but it has been coming down at better than 1" an hour. Snow has slacked off considerably. Right now I would estimate it is falling at 0.25"/hr. NEXRAD shows we are indeed in a "hole" in the precip here at Great Falls, VA, but there is another strong cell working up this way from Culpeper.

Where are you in ChesCo?We take off from Chester Springs on Route 100. The more the merrier!
Sorry to take so long to answer. 10 inches of snow on the satellite dish is about the limit I guess. VOC took the water hose to get me back online! He is a wonderful man.

I thought I just heard the Fox News Channel weather-dude say that Dubya was stuck in a car in the snow for 2 hours today.
Sounds strangely unlikey to me. But can anybody verify this?

I was listening to Hurricane Swartz on the TV. I kid you not, did you know that this full moon is called the Snow Moon???
