The Chicagoland Chapter had a successful Anti-antiwar protest in the Lincolnwood area of North Chicago. Attendees were Chicagolady, GRRRRR, Chi-Town Chief, BillyBoy, RedWing9, justshutupandtakeit and son.
BillyBoy, Chicagolady and myself arrived at the corner of Western and Devon around 12:15. GRRRRR and Chi-Town Chief had already laid claim to the corner flying the American Flag and egging-on the 'Saddam Fan Club' of 'Useful Idiots.' justhshutupandtakeit and his son came soon after that, yelling comments from across the street like 'We love Saddam'.
We were located about 4 blocks west of the protest gathering but right along their planned march. Their rally was to start at noon, but there were plenty of stragglers coming down Devon until the march began. That only allowed us to stir them up with chants like:
I'll leave it up to the others to add their own reminisces. I do remember calling out to the bandana-covered-face radicals to show their face. They tried to yell something which was undiscernable, so I again asked them to drop the bandana so we could understand them. They continued on their way, flustered by their inability to make a point, I think.
The marchers began their journey west at around 1:15p and they past by us, all ~4000-5000 of them. I stood on a bus bench the entire time with my 400,000 inspectors sign, chanting, pointing out their faltering logic, and just generally laughing at them.
Several of them tried to corner me into the 'you've never served in the military' argument, it was most assuredly easy to ignore them.
We kept reminding them that A.N.S.W.E.R. and N.I.O.N. were fronted by communist organizations. At at the end we had an old man, veteran of Korea, establish himself as a member of A.N.S.W.E.R. We had a discussion with him that was more laden with the typical 'you didn't serve, you can't talk' rhetoric, along with other things that justshutupandtakeit and GRRRRR will have to comment on. I would like to point out that as he was walking away and said "A small town in Texas is missing their town joker" I said, "Oh, I didn't know you were from Texas"... lol
THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING OUR TROOPS AND OUR COUNTRY. I am having a ball reading all of the FReeps that took place today. Whooooeeee. GREAT!!
BTW, I'm a Blues fan and am married (40 years) to a Detroiter and avid Red Wing fan. It gets rough in our house when they play each other. lol
Hi Blue, you beat me to the thread again. you are really moving today.
Thanks Chicago FReepers from one of the Mid Missouri Infinite FReep gang.
PROTESTER SIGN: "Make Pizza Not War"
ME: Why can't we do both?
Heh heh heh...
Great response!
Would like to see a picture of the commie KORVET. 17 + 50 makes 67, did he look 67? Whether or not you served is beside the point. Thanks for supporting the troops and our War on Terrorism.
You obviously noticed that I live in Chicago now. I have vanity plates that match my team, I have a sticker that covers my back window with the logo, and yet I still manage to root the Blues on when they play the Hawks. My reasoning: I hate the Hawks more than I hate the Blues!!! LOL
Doug Weight is a good friend of my step-brothers. They went to High-School together in Mt. Clemens, MI. I'll root his team on whenver there not playing the Wings! :o)
P.S. I'd like to invite myself if you ever come to Chicago for a game... :o)
Now, what was that peice of crap posted just before yours... I've been expecting several of the protestors to come to visit me. I wasn't shy about my handle :)
Unless GRRRRR got one, I was too busy being interviewed by the Chicago Tribune.
Thanks! You should make an attempt to join us sometime, it's a riot!
Not everyone was protesting war, however. {name withheld}, 36, of Oak Forest, stood on Devon with a small group of supporters, holding a sign reading, "More Inspectors? Yes: 400,000 of them! Support our troops." Anti-war activists walked by, occasionally cat-calling him.
"We need to get rid of Saddam," he said. "The UN needs to stand up and get a spine."
Those "activists" walking by, was the SINGLE Korean War veteran who we were in a discussion with prior to Mr. Jervis asking for an interview. LOL
