We, if you mean Republican, are not claiming racism. We're claiming the rule of law. I think Bennett laid it out clearly this morning.

There is no public confirmation. I called 2 of his offices this morning. I said, what is going on with the Estrada nomination. 2 different places told me that Nelson met with Estrada yesterday and he is "leaning towards supporting him." Granted this is more like a trial balloon than definite support, but it shows their resolve is cracking. So, WE MUST continue to CALL!

It's one thing for his office to say, "he is NOT supporting the filibuster." Technically, there is NO filibuster UNLESS the Republicans invoke cloture. So Senator Nelson is saying he is supporting something that is not happening. We need to get him to pubically say he supports Estrada's confirmation. If we can get him to say that, I think this is over.

It may have something to do with the type of media player you are using. I've had similar problems during last few days while using Real player. But when I switched to Windows Media Player I could watch C-span smoothly. Using proxy server to connect to internet could also help.

The Democrats oppose this guy because of his politics, not his race. Our claims of racism will backfire.Yeah, Republicans may no longer be able to count on their overwhelming minority base.
Get real.

Did you call Nelson of Nebraska or Nelson of Florida? Nelson of Nebraska has already come out in favor of Estrada.

The Democrats have used false charges of racism as a key strategy for years. The best way to nullify their ability to use phony charges of racism as a bludgeon is to turn it against them.
To: Partisan Hack
Wrong!!! Its because of his politics AND his race combined. If he were a white guy they would probably not be filibustering. If he said he supported Roe vs. Wade they would vote for him so fast your head would spin.

Florida. Perhaps you could give him a call too.

These are the same
hate mongering Democrats that filibustered to obstruct the
1968 Civil Rights Act, willfully obstructed
Clarance Thomas' nomination to the Supreme Court
soley because he is black and now are willfully
obstructing the Estrada nomination soley
because he is an Hispanic.
Those of us in the language war should be able to make some hay if we don't allow our neo-Stalinist friends to frame this argument for us.

I was listening to Hatch on the Hannity show, and it seemed to me that he's all but thrown in the towel. He explained why the filibuster can't continue through the weekend (one of the Rep senator's wives is ill, etc)... He suggested that people call one of 10 dem senators that may be persuaded to change their minds... Seemed like a signal of defeat, unfortunately. What a travesty of justice.
I haven't watched any of the proceedings today... Does anyone see any chances of Estrada pulling this out, or is it dead?

1:13 pm est - just talked to Sen. Nelson's office and inquired what his opinion of Estrada was after his meeting yesterday. I was told HE DOES NOT SUPPORT THE FILIBUSTER!! But.....they don't how he will vote (B.S.!!) I was pleasant, told him I was glad to hear that Nelson had met with Estrada and did not support filibuster. Especially since I had been watching the fiasco at the UN this morning and feel we are in danger of losing our very country. Therefore, the waste of time the Democrats are engaged in with this partisan nonsense is NOT appreciated by concerned Americans. We are concerned for our country and our very lives and we are watching. He said he was very aware - THEY ARE GETTING LOTS OF PHONE CALLS.!!!! Pick up the phone you all - keep up the pressure. The scarey part is -- I AM afraid for our country and our lives.

JH2....please ping others to this thread & my post.
Dear Friends:
Just got off the phone with (FL-D) Sen. Nelson's office. The staffer said that the Senator is 'against the filibuster and not participating'.
I asked that Nelson give a speech telling his Democrat colleagues that the filibuster against nominee Estrada must stop particularly now when we are on the brink of war & under a high terrorist alert.
What they are doing is preventing the Senate from voting on a nominee that the Judicial Committee has brought to the floor for a vote. The Democrats are disenfranchising all Americans by preventing the other Senators from voting as required by the Constitution!
I reminded them that this will hurt the Democrat Party if it continues. ....especially since that party was so concerned about 'disenfranchising voters in 2000 election'.
Please all Sen. Nelson's office here:
1-202-224-5274 (Connected quickly)
You can try these also but all circuits were busy:
1-800-648-3516
1-800-762-8762
Thanks for joining this effort and asking others to help,
Julie

Excellent points!! btw - when I was talking to the staffer, I practiced my own brand of RAT b.s. saying that I always felt Sen. Nelson was above petty politics and hoped he would do what was best for the protection of our Country. (I even did it with a straight face!!).
