[history]
WASHINGTON - Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan dealt a blow to President Bush's drive for new tax cuts Tuesday, voicing concern about the rising federal budget deficit and saying he did not believe the economy needed further stimulus.
He also surprised some analysts with a cautiously upbeat assessment of the U.S. economy's prospects, though he said that fears of war with Iraq make it difficult to gauge the economy's underlying health.

Tax cut unneeded, Greenspan saysThis comes from the old fart who over-reacted by raising interest rates in 1998 and 1999, which brought on the recession!
To: NormsRevenge
Taxes need reduction but this gov needs its SPENDING CUT. The only problem is spending & this "Two-Party Cartel" won't address it.

Anyone who says Greenspan is not a partisan democrat - is a partisan democrat.
Over the years, he has done everything in in his power to prop up democrat administrations and tear down republican ones through his godlike 'management' of our economy.
It's long past time for him to go.

I would never claim to be one of our military heros, which I did not. For what it's worth, Military ID# and Birth certificate do not equal
saying that I am a member of our military and am a hero. I will say no more on that subject. However, I will offer a bit of advice in that we should
refrain from posting to each other as this needless banter does get tiresome. (Well, at least neither cried to the admin moderator).

Last time I checked, Alan Greenspan wasn't a congressman or senator and didn't get to vote on any taxcuts.
Therefore, to me at least, his opinion means as much as Barbra Streisand's or Osama Bin Laden's for that matter.

You seem to be uninformed about online behavior expectations here. It is concidered bad manners to take a previous conversation to an unrelated thread.
And if you don't wish to post to me, don't. I never posted to you except to defend myself from a scurrilous charge.

Last time I checked, Alan Greenspan wasn't a congressman or senator and didn't get to vote on any taxcuts. I'm not attempting to defend nor promote Greenspan, but I will comment that the title of the article is misleading, and in my opinion, purposely so. The author seems to have a bias against tax cuts in general and is attempting to make it seem that an important person embraces that bias.
It is an old trick, but it doesn't work with thoughtful readers.

The Republicans need to adopt a single message, repeated endlessly and relentlessly. Republicans should refuse to discuss any other domestic issue. This is the message: without significant tax cuts, the economy is likely to get worse, and the obstructionist, class-warfaring Democrats will be to blame. That way, if the tax cuts aren't passed, and the economy gets worse, there'd be a good chance that the public will blame the Democrats.

remove the cap on the FICA tax...let the rich pay moreJust wondering, is that a serious comment or a sarcastic one? Hard to tell sometimes.
To: NormsRevenge
``There is no question that if deficits go up, contrary to what some have said, it does affect long-term interest rates, it does have a negative impact on the economy,'' he said. There's no real evidence to support that notion.

"remove the cap on the FICA tax...let the rich pay more"
To be fair, you would then have to calculate their monthly pay out when they retire based upon their total wages. There are much better ways to manage giving a tax cut while reducing the deficit.
