Bad-boy actor Sean Penn says his opposition to a war in Iraq cost him a lucrative movie role - but the film's producer, Steve Bing, calls the claim "extortion." The feud over "Why Men Shouldn't Marry" erupted yesterday amid dueling lawsuits in Los Angeles.

Mel Gibson is supposedly facing harassment for his public expression of faith. This is more than just the detail that he wants his movie about Christ to be released in old languages without subtitles (that would only be the concern of the company that is fronting the production money).

Maybe Scott Ritter will hire him for his next Iraqi financed gem. That would probably take more money than the $400,000 Scott Ritter got to make his first pro-Iraqi film. Who'da thunk it that Scott was a filmmaker? Of course, there are rumors that he "starred" in some movies shot in Iraq that he'd rather not see get released.

I'm not much of a Star Watcher...I forgot he was in that one...then there's ALWAYS...Mad Max, etc. if there is any star worth *watching* in Hollywood, it's Mel. Not only for his good looks, but his good heart.
Loved it when he handcuffed that guy to the car bomb....but then, that's just Me!
That was great! You might be in for more fun like that in the future, rumor has it he'll begin filming MM4 in May! Woo hoo!

I'll file this in the, "Things that make you want to ask So?" folder. Maybe Sean should make his next blockbuster in Iraq.
To: oyez
Absolutely right. He should stick to what he does well, acting.

But Bing - a multimillionaire who fathered a child with Liz Hurley - says he's the object of "an extraordinary extortion attempt by an irrational and irresponsible actor." Really?

The way I see it is that Penn is "damaged goods" for his support of Saddam and the producer of the proposed film knows that putting Penn in there jeopardizes the film's profitability.
The producer, sans a contract, has every right to take whatever action he deems necessary to make his film profitable.
Period.
