FReep the French Embassy with American University College Republicans - 2/13/2003
American University College Republicans | February 11, 2003 | Angelwood

Posted on 02/11/2003 6:42:40 AM PST by Angelwood

The D.C. Chapter of Free Republic has received an invitation to join the American University College Republicans in a protest at the French Embassy in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, February 13, 2003 from 4 to 6 p.m. We in turn invite all metro area FReepers and Lurkers to stand with the AUCR and the D.C. Chapter outside the French Embassy.

The email message received from the American University College Republicans is as follows:

The American University College Republicans, in cooperation with the CRNC, are staging a Protest at the French Embassy in Washington, DC, for their foreign policy of appeasement, and their resistance to the call of our President to enforce 12 years of UN resolutions requiring the disarmement of Saddam's regime in Iraq.

Stand with us

--Thursday, February 13th,
--Time: 4 to 6 p.m.
--French embassy, 4101 Reservoir Road N.W, near Georgetown U.

Republican students from around the United States will converge on French Embassies and Consulates. We are asking you, our friends and allies, to join in our efforts and demonstrate President Bush’s call for Peace through Strength!

The time we selected is early enough to make the evening news [and we are working with several groups to press release this to all relevant media], but late enough in the day that students interning should be able to make it uptown.

PLEASE forward this opportunity on to your members. We would appreciate it if you would modify the directions to be most helpful to them.

We will provide the signs if you bring the voices!

Below you will find directions to the French Embassy in Georgetown.

-------

DIRECTIONS to 4101 Reservoir Road N.W., 20007… If you can get to Georgetown, it is just a five-minute walk from corner of Wisconsin and Reservoir [near Georgetown U.]:

-Bus from AU: take any even-numbered “30” bus traveling south on Wisconsin. Get off and take a right on Reservoir. Walk app. One-half mile.

-Driving from AU: Travel South on Nebraska Ave. until past AU; take a left onto Foxhall Rd.; continue down Foxhall to Reservoir Rd.; Make a left on Reservoir Rd. and travel until you have reached 4101.

-From Catholic U: take the Red Line Metro to AU/Tenleytown, and follow the "bus" directions above.

The D.C. Chapter of Free Republic has been joined in recent protests by students from the very active group of College Republicans at American University. They joined us in freeping Terry McAuliffe when we demonstrated outside the Brookings Institute when Al Gore was scheduled to speak and, most recently, they joined us at the White House and became part of the HUMAN SHIELDS protest.

Please chime in on this thread if you are able to join us on Thursday. I've already got a "white flag" to show what I think of the French, along with some great sign ideas from other threads. Please join us. We'll make our point to the French and have some fun while we are there.

Be prepared!
The French may well surrender to you, and then expect you to feed and clothe them...and of course serve them a nice '92 Cabernet.

Was a member of the AU Young Republicans in the late '60's.
It was mostly Rockfeller Republicans with a few conservatives.
Be looking for a report on their 'force de frappe'.

What's a protest without signs? I'm sure there will be some good ones.

If, like myself, you can not make it to the protest, make sure you write a letter to your local paper in support of President Bush. I have noticed an onslaught of letters-to-the-editor from the wacky left denouncing the USA and the president. In your letters, make sure that you provide your address and phone number, as most papers won't publish without them due to liability reasons.

There is a blue bus that leaves Dupont Circle every 15 minutes for Georgetown. It stops in 19th street half a block south from the circle. One way to get there is to metro to Dupont and then take the blue bus.

Darn! I WISH I could be there.

I would definately show up as a French "woman", wearing a tank top and a pair of black slippers tucked into each arm pit.

For once we agree. 1776 was the last time the French were helpful.

It's a good idea to write letters to your local editors. That is one of the directives that the leftists have been sending out to their people in emails. Perhaps that is why you are seeing so many anti-war letters in the paper these days.

A chance to practice high school French. I'm sure Jimmy Valentine can come up with soemthing rude and insulting. Something on the order of the "French honor and wine no longer age well - both easily turn to vinegar." Or For France it's all about $60 Billion Oil Contracts."

Thanks for the list of French Consulates around the country. Other FReepers can visit their area Consulate and protest, too!
