Thousands of South Koreans staged a pro-U.S. rally Sunday, prayed for North Korea to give up its nuclear ambitions and an envoy of South Korea's president-elect urged Washington to hold direct talks with the communist nation....

Didn't see any mention of this yet on CNN - imagine that.

"60 Minutes" had a segment tonight detailing how the SoKors don't like us and how they fear Pres. Bush more than Kim Whathisname.
I was thinking at the time that CBS didn't go out of its way to find any pro-US folks.
What else is new?

Because to a man (or woman) the American correspondents stationed there and covering S. Korea for the major US TV networks, cables, wire services, etc. are LIBERALs who went to elite J-schools like Columbia U. or USC in the states, and have had to maintain their liberal tint in order to make it up the cutthroat ladder to maintain their nice apartment in Hanggang or the Porsche. For them to actually go out of their way to file a story that would contradict the image they successfully made in November and December last year that all S. Koreans hate the us, they would jeopardize their professional and career positions. After all they are only humans trying to increase their bank accounts and objectivity should not take precedence over that.

RE #3
This demonstration was also reported in a S. Korean newspaper, way in the backpage. I think that reporters here are also under the same pressure. I keep hearing the charges that medias are too conservative and "pro-establishment". Liberals are hard at work here as well as other places. They also tend to think that foreign medias are "better" than they are, which will inevitably make them align their perspective with that of American liberal J-school graduates.

yeah ya did. They just misreported it again. They reported it as an Anti - American demonstration.(But don't wait for the retraction/correction.)

South Korea should be ashamed. 54,246 Americans gave their lives fighting for South Korea and there are over 8,000 American MIA's from the Korean War. Semper Fi

i missed that episode, how was it? as a korean-american, i'm embarrassed by the way these idiots act. but, again, the media only portrays the vocal few. the conservative who lost the election, i think, still received 46% (vs. 48% for the winner) of the vote.

They only know what they read in the papers.
The press doesn't mention a little incident that still angers the S. Koreans. The Carter admin. (Richard Holbrooke and co.) told the S. Korean government that they'd support whatever measures were necessary to quell ongoing student-Christian protests in 1979. The S. Korean military gassed and bayonetted the protestors...hundreds, possibly a thousand died and OUR press still covers it up.
The S. Koreans were furious that Carter received the Nobel Peace prize and don't understand why our nation hasn't apologized for supporting the brutal government murder of their students. They simply don't trust us. How can we blame them? Our press is untrustworthy.

The ROK view on the
Migook, is largely a generational one. Stationed at Yongsan, I lived off-post in Itaewon and walked about 3 miles to work every day. Inevitably, I passed the same old Korean gentleman preparing for work early in the morning, who would snap a perfect salute and say "Dae wee (Captain), Sank You!"
I always did my best to return his salutes as smartly and as sharply as he rendered them to me.

The only ones that should be reamed out are the specific South Koreans who do not feel a sense of gratitude. Don't fall for the bait. I can assure you, not ALL South Koreans think that way. The shouting, scummy liberal kids in need of a shower are getting all the press and attention.
