Hurst police officer involved in shooting

By DEBRA DENNIS / The Dallas Morning News

A Hurst tactical police officer shot a 38-year-old suspect as they were attempting to serve a search and arrest warrant Wednesday night, authorities said.

The unidentified Hurst man was shot two to three times at his apartment after trying to grab the officer's MP-5 submachine gun, said Assistant Police Chief Richard Winstanley.

"The suspect had an unknown object in his hand and physically grabbed the officer and the barrel of the officer's gun," he said.

The suspect was treated by paramedics at the scene and transported to Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth. His injuries are not life threatening, police said.

Another woman who was home at the time was not injured and not arrested. No officers were injured.

The officer who fired the shots was assisting the Metro Narcotics Intelligence Coordination Unit, a multi-jurisdictional drug task force composed of officers from several Tarrant County cities.

The unit was serving a no-knock warrant about 7:19 p.m. at the apartment in the 500 block of Brown Trail. The warrant allows police to enter without first knocking.

The unidentified officer, an eight-year veteran, was the first officer through the door and dressed in tactical attire that identified him as a police officer, authorities said. He has been placed on paid administrative leave pending investigations by Hurst police, officials said.

Hold Muh Brain Pan.

This is definite Darwin Award material.
If you are gonna grab the muzzle of a submachinegun, you had best be The Terminator or you will get terminated.

Upity civilian got upset about his door being kicked in. Got what he deserved. Boy, this type of thing makes everyone love and respect the "Boys in Black" with coal scuttle helmets, boots, and face masks.

I trust the police, don't you?

Yeah he deserved it. Anybody freaking out when people kick in their need to be shot, PERIOD. Also all the drugs and guns they seized make this justified.

Shouldn't they have gotten a resolution first, and then sent in a team of inspectors? I think this was a rush to judgement.

The whole idea of a no knock warrant in circumstances where a hostage is not in danger is blatently wrong, but we can't sort that out on the street.

I will shoot first and ask questions later at anyone kicking in my door.
There have been too many Home Invasion Roberies by people with balistic vests and Raid Jackets.
I stay loaded with ammo that will penetrate a Cat III vest.
I have commited no significant crimes lately, and can have no expectation that the people kicking in my door might be police with a no knock warrant.

It was grabbing the MP-5 that was imbecilic.
Either you maintain seperation and shoot back, or surrender and hope to be allowed to live. Grabbing at their weapons is the stupidest possible thing he could have done.

Hurst Texas, sorry to say, is a Hick Burg. If it wasn't for Ft.Worth on its' flank, the town would never get any revenue. Revenue comes from nailing speeders doing anymore than 2 miles over the limit.

It and tact squads should be reserved for only the most serious of circumstances.

The gang bangers here use that M.O. to do home invasions.

IF TRUE it was imbecilic. If there was an accidental discharge we will never know it unless the perp had a video camera running and managed to keep the tape.

Care to elaborate ? I'm wondering if you've got a 30-06 AP revolver or something interesting like that.

Too bad the cop didn't get shot instead.

I'm as hard on the cops as anyone, but this time all I have to say is: what was this genius thinking when he tried to grab the cop's gun?

I have a Para-Ornance P-14 with a 6" slide that is converted to 460 Rowland, but Mag Safe has a .45 ACP SWAT load that will do the job if you can find it for sale.

A Taurus "Raging Hornet" in 22 hornet will do it. All you need is velocity. Kevlar behaves much like silly putty. At a certain velocity (about 1800fps) it no longer stretches and deforms, but shatters like glass

I also keep a riot gun loaded with flechette rounds. The flechettes are narrow and sharp enough to go through the weave of the vest. Look for them in Shotgun News

Powder burn marks on his sleeve and/or arm will demonstrate exactly where it was in relation to the muzzle.

Heh ... then my 454 should do the job no problem ....

Sounds like you've got some nice toys there.
