We have some catching up to do for those of you following my left wing college ping list. We have been studying law in the class and he has only made insane comments peppered over the rest of the lecture.
I kept track of the comments, and will list the ones from the last 2 class periods here.
First he came out and said that he talked to another college professor who is a conservative. He told this professor that he had found scientific research that people are "dumber" than they actually think they are.
According to this report people who think they are smart are very dumb, and people who think they are dumb are very smart.
He had no evidence or sources...just that it was some study think tank group.
According to him most people need protection from themselves because as he puts it "nobody has a free will"
For this example he talked about when companies used to send out mass mailings of credit cards. He said that is now illegal because people couldn't control themselves and were going out and buying everything on the credit cards.
He said something about Mcdonalds advertising hamburgers, and that we can't stop eating Mcdonalds because they have control over us.
At one point in today's lecture he complained about Iran Contra. He said.....
"Reagan illegally sold arms to Iran. Then he diverted the funds to our campaign in Nicaragua. But because American people are so stupid and simple minded, they didn't get angry with him. Because they didn't know what the hell was going on!"
He said that the reason Clinton was impeached was because sex is easy to figure out.
He then went on a tirade about Newt Gingrich cheating on his wife the day Clinton was impeached. He said that he believes 99% of Republican Congressmen cheat on their wives.
He said that he has come to the conclusion that Republicans were having trouble finding someone to be Speaker of the House when Gingrich left. Murmured something about a Republican congressman from Louisiana who cheated on his wife.
He then said he thinks the Republicans picked Dennis Hastert as Speaker of the House because he is gay, and therefore couldn't be cheating on his wife.
He went on a tirade yesterday about "Rich White Kids with Guns"
Finally I stopped him and asked him why they have such a high crime rate in England. He said that is Bull Crap because Englands crime is apparently according to him lower than ours.
He said the worst places where school shootings occur are white neighborhoods with 37 churches and no beer joints. Because everybody is "oppressed" where there are 37 churches and no beer joints.
He claims that poor people don't have enough money to buy drugs. He said that money corrupts, and that money is bad. According to him rich people are responsible for all problems in society.
He said he is not really sure why we are going to war, but that conservatives like war, and liberals don't.
He tried to lay a guilt trip on the class by saying that while innocent people were being blown up in Iraq, we were going to be worrying about what movie we were going to see that night.
He then asked the class. Do you really think only the bad guys are going to get blown up? Or will it be mostly innocent people?
To conclude the lesson he said that the point of the class was not to teach us Business Law, but how to cut corners around Business Law, and to work smart instead of working hard.

I agree. He said that the only place working hard will get you is Quick-Trip.

Is there a syllabus for this course?

Yes there is a syllabus. Its mainly got the Business Law stuff on it. Not the other crap he peppers over the lecture.
To: OneLoyalAmerican
Actually on the back of the syllabus there is what he calls "Academic Welfare"
All you have to do is check a box that says you are a hypocrital conservative, and he will give you ten free points. I refused to do it.

Its not so bad listening to him because i can see straight through him. I worry about those who might be easily influenced by his scam. Although he tries to be a very complicated person, and people who aren't interested in this kind of thing probably haven't and don't want to think much about it.

What's the URL to your professor's website?
To: ConservativeMan55
Just by reading the statements, it would be almost impossible to guess what this person is supposed to teach. That's usually not a good sign, kind of like your dentist reaching for a trombone during a root canal. I really can't imagine this guy being terribly useful, except to laugh at.
I see him better suited as the guy you see along the side of the freeway, wearing hightops and a dirty raincoat, scowling at passers-by. And in a world where academia didn't coddle, then tenure, its carnival freaks, that's exactly where he'd be.
PS Please add me to the ping list. This stuff is priceless.

Be of good cheer...often these guys go so far over the top that most in the class discount what they have to say about politics. I saw one student one time raise his hand after a tirade like the ones you mention. When the prof asked what his question was, the student asked if what the prof was saying was fact or opinion. Took the prof off guard. The student kept it up all semester. Worked pretty well to disarm the prof. Hang in there...we are actually winning the war of worldviews!

how to cut corners around Business Law, and to work smart instead of working hardObviously not a business ETHICS class. Considering his apparent ethical position, it's no wonder that he considered BJ's impeachment to be about sex (no big deal).
But then it apparently isn't a business law class because he doesnt understand the significance of a CEO lying under oath .... or does he (see first sentence above, re. ethics)
BTW, how do you keep from blowing your brains out (or at least the frontal lobe - so you can bear to listen to such drivel)? Or, have you decided that a grade is not as important as fighting back against insipid comments?

Whatever you do, don't carry any Ayn Rand books into class...they'll have you up on murder charges if he gets a wiff of objectivism. Black's Law Dictionary might be considered a WMD....

My advice: get your grade, and move on, and then get your degree, and go start making your millions. Otherwise, you'll pay double in time and money, and possibly never graduate.
Success is the sweetest revenge.

I added you. I will give you the links to the other entries I have made as well.

UK has a crime rate which is increasing with more gun laws. That is what is hard to explain. Direct cross-oceanic comparisons are not as valid because there is a violence level difference which affects not only gun related violence but other violence as well, so the gun stuff tends to factor out, if I recall correctly. (Prof. Joyce Malcolm has done studies.)

I argue with him every day. He gives extra credit points to those who argue or disagree with him.
