It's going to be a real bad monday in Baghdad (or Mecca), if they trace this to the Islamofascists. It would be their last one, make no mistake about that. It's highly unlikely terrorism had anything to do with this, though.

200,000 miles high And it was over Palestine, TX >>>>
Don't know if it happened exactly on top of us, but locals
are reporting debris in the county (Anderson).....and radar
showing debris still falling 30/40 miles north of us in
Athens, TX.

Back off. If you would stop trying to start flame wars you wouldn't get into so many of them.
Gonna call me a "Disruptor" or something now?

Not exactly true. Tiles have been know to come off, it depends WHERE and how many come off...I have seen pics of the wing underside with tiles missing...

"multiple pieses of shuttle would make multiple booms upon reentry." The heaviest, densist, debris is probably the main and straight line heading East to Cape Kennedy. The light debris forms that concave dish-like bloom.
In case anyone missed it, there is a DU exception for this thread only:To: All DU links will be allowed on this thread, but this thread only. May the world see what kind of animals DUers are.

DU links will be allowed on this thread, but this thread only. May the world see what kind of animals DUers are.I disagree with this decision. Let us mourn their deaths without politicizing this tragedy. That is something for DU scumbag types to do. We should be above that. I wish you didn't include their hatred on this thread.
Let us pray for the lost and their families...

I hope President Bush's speechwriter is half as good. President Reagan's words were extremely touchingGood grief! Speechwriters? I doubt that many are concerned about the words the President says today other than what is said from his heart. Why must we get involved with so much superficiality?

What is that?

Give me a break! I am simply wondering if there is a more serious matter to this, which would account for his wanting to be at the WH, at the helm, before he makes any announcement?

Look right above this one.
I'm interested in the facts and what people HERE might think happened.

I am in shock. I've been watching FNC for the past half hour and I really have no words. The one thing I did observe is that the amateur video they showed looked like the shuttle was sideways on re-entry. There was also some white debris in that same frame shot.
If the shuttle re-entered sideways, it was more than likely spinning out of control before it re-entered.

I haven't been watching this thread for the past fifteen minutes, so maybe this has already been answered:
but why is the President traveling in a motorcade back to Washington. Doesn't he usually fly?
The scroll across the bottom of one of the news channels (CNN, I think) said his motorcade was heading to Washington? Does he usually drive from Camp David to Washington?
