Dan Coats is a great man. And the right man at the right time in Germany.

I think the Germans better get motivated to get out and vote in their next election.

Be a large mistake to piss off those Yankee imperialists ya know.

Two words: Dresden firebombing

What a great guy to have as our Ambassador over there! Always one of my favorites when he was in the Senate!

I had mixed feelings about Coats when he was my Senator (e.g. he voted for some gun control bills, which was a problem for me).

But now that he's working for the Bush team I like what I'm hearing.

The President seems to have a gift for good, straight talk, and maybe that rubs off on people who work for him.

He must have gotten some very interesting and explicit instructions from Powell. I would have liked to have been a fly on the wall for that one...

"...would not consider them a partner anymore."

Yes, he actually meant what he said, Gerhard -- "You're either with us or against us."

Well we could start by closing a few of our many military bases in Germany and bring them home along with their pay checks...the lost income might really get their attention.

We've got about 75,000 GIs and their dependents in Germany. When you add in schools, medical facilities, travel and movement of household goods, etc., the cost is astronomical.

Yup..Get in line or kiss our troops "good-bye" and be on the outside looking in during the victory celebration and post-Saddam Iraq.

There are by-elections in two German states this weekend. If the electoral defeat for Der Shredder is real bad the Bundestag could be dissolved.

I spent a week or so in the Kaiserslautern/Ramstein area last year on temporary duty and we have quite a presence there. If we left it would hurt that area badly. Maybe the Italians or Spanish would be happy to take up the slack if we really want to keep those people forward deployed.

I think Dan Coats should have gone a step further and mention the contribution ($$$$ figures) our military contributes to their crumbling economy and that Poland is dying to have us and would be happy to make a place for us there.

It's high time that the Germans realize that we are deadly serious.

Politics as usual will not be tolerated.
