Australia to back US no matter what

Thursday 30 January 2003, 07:05AM A top Bush administration official believes Australia will follow the United States into a war with Iraq even without United Nations sanctioning.

US Deputy Defence Secretary Paul Wolfowitz said planning between Australian and American troops was already smoothly underway.

The words of Prime Minister John Howard showed that Australia would stand by the US in its efforts to rid Iraq of its weapons of mass destruction.

"I think the very strong statements the prime minister made today make it very clear where Australia stands," he told ABC television.

"I think Australia's solidarity with us is an important piece of trying to achieve a peaceful resolution here, and if it comes to the use of force to make it as humane and effective as possible."

Mr Howard continues to deny Australia would automatically follow the US into a war in Iraq without UN sanction.

But he stressed time was running out for Iraq and President Saddam Hussein to come clean with the level of weapons of mass destruction held in the country.

Much would depend on the reaction of the UN Security Council after it is briefed by US Secretary of State Colin Powell next week.

"There will be some new information presented to the Security Council and if there is new information and new intelligence that can be declassified, then it's a good idea that it be presented," he said.

Opposition Leader Simon Crean said the UN's credibility would take a blow if the US started a war against Iraq without sanction from the world organisation.

"It wouldn't be a fatal blow to the UN's authority, but what it signals is unilateralism is a pattern that can be followed and that's bad for world peace and security," he said.

They had a small taste of what we went through with 9/11. They've seen first hand what we're up against.

France and Germany, on the other hand, are in blissful, lazy, ignorance.

Ya beat me to it mate. All it takes is a little first hand experience with this murderous bunch and you become a believer.

I think the Aussies would have come with us anyway though. They're also a freedom loving bunch.

Now, the French...what can we do about the French ;(

France and Germany are the two countries most guilty of Nuclear proliferation on the planet... who gives a damn what the Nazi's and the Frog's want. Germany dragged the world into war twice within 25 years, and France for the most part became the most willing captive nation when it came to making sure the Jews all got rounded up. They have no moral authority about the utility and neccessity of war. Perhaps if France and the rest of Europe had not been so capitulatory to Germany in 1939 there may not have been an occupation or the holocaust.

I actually believe as a percentage of their population that Bali Bombing was even larger than 9/11.. could be wrong though.

A big thank you to all Freepers in America for dedicating a post just for freepers in Oz.

--Now about this War on Terrorism,Well the hate mongers in Indonesia(Take note,Bashir & co.)claim that if Australia goes into Iraq, then they will launch terrorist attacks here in Oz.(Well I say stuff them!!)In a worst case scenario(suppose something bad happens here)and our troops are abroad,Then I will join the reserves.(At 49 I don't think I am too old to join up!)
I'm itching for a fight with these sawn-off recalcitrants who think they have a right to interfere with our fine country.
Bugger the Democrat Do-gooders and Greens alike-they can rot!
