'Mammy Condoleezza' Parody Prompts Apology, NAACP Mum
A Florida radio station has apologized for letting one of its hosts air a racist song parody about Bush National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice. But the apology comes no thanks to the local chapter of the NAACP, which was contacted about the racial outrage, but decided not to complain on behalf of the top black Bush official.
The song "Condoleezza," aired repeatedly by WQAM-AM Miami radio host Neil Rogers, who's a harsh critic of President Bush, was a viscous racial assault on Ms. Rice that described her as a "black-haired answer-mammy" who "cleans all the White House bathrooms."
Angered over the radio racism directed towards the nation's highest ranking African-American woman, Robert Oliver, producer for the "Interactions" radio show on Chicago's WBEE, complained to WQAM about "Condoleezza" in December. It was he, not anyone with the Miami NAACP, who finally extracted the following apology from station management, which was broadcast on WQAM on Jan. 17:
"Recently Neil Rogers, one of our broadcast personalities, aired a parody with derogatory comments regarding Condoleezza Rice and her heritage. Ms. Rice is a respected senior official of our government and, on that basis alone, deserves to be addressed with respect.
"As broadcasters, we take our role as steward of the public airwaves very seriously and wish to inform listeners that Mr. Rogers' comments and opinions are his and his alone. Station personnel at WQAM and its owner, the Beasley Broadcast Group, DO NOT share Mr. Rogers' views on this subject and satire and we offer our sincere apology to anyone who was offended by this broadcast." (End of Apology)
To anyone who was offended? How could anyone not be offended with song lyrics like these:
"Condoleezza" (Sung to the Nat King Cole classic, Mona Lisa)
"Condoleezza, Condoleezza, what you be doin'? That neo-facist black-haired token schwarze dog.
"Is you there 'cause you a high-toned public Negro? Is you their black-haired answer-mammy who be smart? Does they like how you shine their shoes, Condoleezza? Or the way you wash and park the whitey's cars.
"Georgie junior says he trusts you, Condoleezza. Who said our [unintelligible] off the greedy oil woes. But then he make you clean all the White House bathrooms. The public sink, the toilet and let's scrub the floors." (End of Excerpt)
Mr. Oliver, who also works with the Illinois Freedom Project, told us on Friday that he was satisfied with the station's apology, although there's no indication that WQAM is ready to discipline the race-baiting Mr. Rogers, whose own voice was conspicuously absent from the station owner's apology.
When NewsMax.com first the reported on the "Condoleezza" hate parody in late October, the racial sensitivity police decided to take a powder. Ditto two weeks later, when Fox News Channel's Heather Nauert attempted to interview Rogers about "Condoleezza," and was taunted by sexual vulgarities instead. Credit for forcing WQAM's apology also goes to Congress of Racial Equality National Spokesman Niger Innis, who worked with Mr. Oliver behind the scenes.
So where was the outrage from the rest of the press over Rogers' racist attack on Rice? Apparently the media was too busy getting their knickers in a twist over Trent Lott's gaffe to notice this bit of genuine Jim Crow-style bigotry polluting South Florida's airwaves.
Right under the noses of Miami's NAACP.
Thank you Niger...we need more young black leaders like you! Don't let the Dems get a free pass on this!
BTW, the CORE website has a media protest feature that allows you to address all the major media outlets on their bias. Let's Freep them as well!
The song "Sharpton," aired repeatedly by WQAM-AM Miami radio host Neil Rogers, who's a harsh critic of President Sharpton, was a viscous racial assault on the President that described him as a "black-haired answer-boy" who "cleans all the White House bathrooms."
"Sharpton" (Sung to the Nat King Cole classic, Mona Lisa)
"Sharpton, Sharpton, what you be doin'? That neo-facist black-haired token schwarze dog."
"Is you there 'cause you a high-toned public Negro? Is you their black-haired answer-boy who be smart? Does they like how you shine their shoes, Sharpton? Or the way you wash and park the whitey's cars."
"All the Libs says they trusts you, Sharpie. Who said our [unintelligible] off the greedy welfare woes. But then they make you clean all the White House bathrooms. The public sink, the toilet and let's scrub the floors." (End of Excerpt)
From your profile page:
Isaiah 5:20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
There is nothing humorous about the Condoleeza Mammy song parody. It is completely hateful and bigoted. We live in a country where the idiot that recorded has the freedom to be an idiot and reveal his idiocy to all. And anyone with any decency at all also has the right to be outraged and offended by such hateful bigotry.
I am also.
Rush does parody all the time and there is nothing wrong with it as long as it doesn't cross the line to being hateful. I realize that people can have different opinions on what constitutes that but surely you are aware of the current mood of the country on anything related to racial issues. Trent Lott was just hung out to dry over some relatively innocuous though ill-considered remarks. While he spoke poorly the language and tone he used were nothing compared to this blatant racism. Yet those very people who should have been most offended and spoken out most forcefully in protest (like they did against Lott) are strangely silent because the purveyor of the racist rant is a liberal and it is directed against someone who works for a conservative administration.
IOW, double standard once again on the part of the liberal leftists. Fair-minded people (i.e., conservatives) should point out the hypocrisy of the liberals when it comes to racial issues whenever the opportunity presents itself. The left has gotten a free pass for too long. I for one say no more free pases for the racist hypocrites on the left.
Walk of Faith - Condoleeza Rice
I try always to not think I am Elijah, that I have somehow been particularly called. That's a dangerous thing. In a sense, we've all been, to whatever it is we are doing. But if you try to wear the imprimatur of God - I've seen that happen to leaders who begin too much to believe - there are a couple of very good anecdotes to that. I try to say in my prayers, "Help me to walk in Your way, not my own." To try to walk in a way that is actually trying to fulfill a plan and recognize you are a cog in a larger universe.I think people who believe in a creator can never take themselves too seriously. I feel that faith allows me to have a kind of optimism about the future. You look around you and you see an awful lot of pain and suffering and things that are going wrong. It could be oppressive. But when I look at my own story or many others that I have seen, I think, "How could it possibly be that it has turned out this way?" Then my only answer is it's God's plan. And that makes me very optimistic that this is all working out in a proper way if we all stay close to God and pray and follow in His footsteps.I really do believe that God will never let you fall too far. There is an old gospel hymn, "He knows how much you can bear." I really do believe that.I greatly appreciate, and so does the president, the prayers of the American people. You feel them. You know that they are there. If you just keep doing that, it is so important to all of us.
