[history]
San Francisco -- The band that broke away from the Jan. 18 peace march along San Francisco's Market Street and spent 35 minutes vandalizing the Financial District marked the Bay Area's introduction to "black bloc" protests, police say.
The black bloc, named for its activists' black attire, couples a confrontational style of street protest with anarchist philosophies. It arose in Europe during the late 1980s.

"Will the level of agitation at the demonstration rise if we go to war?" Suhr asked rhetorically. "Yes. We expect it." These folks had better be ready to rock in that case. The 'black bloc' just might run into the 'red, white and blue Bloc' at a war-time protest.

Barbara Epstein, a professor of the history of consciousness at UC Santa CruzMuch like African American Studies, just what does a degree in "the history of consciousness" enable or qualify you to do, aside from becoming a professor of the history of consciousness?
And I thought I made some bad career choices!

I got this link about black bloc through Instapundit.
There are a few pics. But the commentary is what is disturbing.

Was it the Black Bloc that rioted in Oakland last week because the Raiders won and then again this week because they lost? Maybe the bay area is just garbage and needs to be quarantined off from the rest of our country.

Do you have any thing more on this ?

First that I have heard about it.
Of course I haven't taken the GayRhonicle since 1992 and haven't watched the local phoney news on ABCNNBCBS for close to 4 years. So if it isn't posted on Free Republic, I'm not aware of it.

I think they should be killed. They are a waste of food.

...said the reluctance of the rally's organizers to criticize the splinter group stemmed from a desire to avoid exacerbating tensions within the left. Ah, what's this? Trouble in paradise?

relatively minor damage caused by the splinter group of about 200 people -- who broke windows on four buildings, tagged various offices But when 40 conservatives demonstrate at a Florida election office, that's a "riot."

Is that so, oh annoying Fifth Columnist?
The police attacked first, so protestors felt the need to wander off and destroy a Starbucks and a McDonalds to let off some steam? That sounds logical.

Thanks for your link.
The media won' talk about these characters or ANSWER's roots or the hodge podge of leftie causes (I will no longer refer to them as liberals) from Free Mumia to Impeach Bush, they prefer to call them "ordinary" Americans.
This is what kills me. I can understand objections to the war from a few people even if I don't agree. It is the hidden agenda of the leaders and organizers who are using these well meaning folks for their own goals and the media barely even talked about who the organizers were.

the best timeline i've seen from seattle contradicts this -- its in the book 'networks and netwars' from the centrist -- if not pro-govt -- think tank RAND. they make it clear that police attacks came first. Got a link that doesn't have BartCop or DU attached to it?

I'll bet if we go to war and there are 9 million refugees the US will take them in.Maybe war isn't such a good idea.
