President George Bush has been displaying increasing impatience with the pace of inspections and is eager to start the bombing.A thinly-disguised hit piece, imho... I seriously doubt that Bush is 'eager' to start the bombing... I believe he is, however, eager to end this in whatever way makes the most sense. Big difference...

The US intends to shatter Iraq "physically, emotionally and psychologically" by raining down on its people as many as 800 cruise missiles in two days. The writer indicates his anti-war agenda in the first sentence.
There is no way in the world that we're going to destroy the Baghdad water supply. This whole piece is designed to make us look like brutal thugs.

"There is no way in the world that we're going to destroy the Baghdad water supply. This whole piece is designed to make us look like brutal thugs." The main objective was not just to disable Iraq's fighting capacity but to leave the population dispirited and unwilling to support Saddam's regime.

That's not what we're going to do at all. The goal is to surgically eliminate Iraq's capability to defend itself. Killing the entire population of Baghdad by eliminating their water supply is not necessary.
It would be stupid and counterproductive.

But by the same token, killing the entire population of Baghdad WOULD limit Baghdad's ability to defend itself... (Not that I advocate that or anything...)

We could nuke the entire country if we wanted to. But since the endgame is a new regime in Baghdad, it's important to have a Baghdad.
We've been maintaining for months that our dispute is with Saddam Hussein, not the Iraqi people. Targetting civilians is not helpful.

THEY put out some pretty vicious stuff out of Paris every day," John F. Kennedy complains in a tape recording newly made available by the late president's library. "They either attack us for trying to dominate Europe or they attack us for withdrawing from Europe, or that we won't use our nuclear force or that we'll get them into a war and they're not consulted." Thanks to Samurai_Jack for this quote.

A thinly-disguised hit piece, imho IMO too.

Anyone else feeling a little, ummm apprehensive that Germany is once again the major power in Europe? I laughed when I read that. By what measure? It's economy is in shambles. It can't even comply with EU requirements for fiscal responsibility.
Unemployment is skyrocketing.
If Germany is a major power, I wonder what a minor power looks like. Bosnia, I guess.

Well, I seem to recall that once upon a time, Germany's unemployment rate was skyrocketing, and it's economy was in shambles, and yet they went on to be a 'major power' anyway... this was in the late 30s, I believe...

If you scratch the surface a bit in Iraq, you'll find a "Siemens" sticker.
