Planes crash in Denver
By News Staff
January 24, 2003
Two small planes crashed in midair over northwest Denver this evening. News4 video showed a fire burning from one of the wreck sites and another plane on top of a house.
Rene Sweet was taking a walk and saw the crash.
"It happened at 5:17 p.m. and there was a horrible noise," said Sweet. "There was the sound of an airplane trying to recover its engine. I saw it fall nose-first right into the ground and the second plane came down after that."
The crash happened at approximately 5:15 p.m. at 3421 Moncrief Street, close to Brown Elementary School.
"From what I see, the house looks pretty levelled. It doesn't look to be like much of anything there," another witness told News4 by phone.
Wreckage was scattered at 36th Street between Julian and King streets and the second came down near 26th and Irving streets.
Another witness reported seeing the two planes, one a single engine Cessna Skyhawk and the other a twin engine, collide.

Agreed, the TV just reported it was a single and a twin now. Not sure if the twin was a small jet or a recip.
