Republicans say they have cure for budget woes By DAVID STEVES The Register-Guard
SALEM - A group of Republican legislators revealed Tuesday that they have a secret plan to avoid drastic state cuts if the income tax measure fails - as they hope it does.
But voters are just going to have to trust them on this one because the lawmakers won't unveil their strategy until Jan. 29 - a day after Measure 28 votes are tallied.
The four GOP House members, who strongly oppose the tax increase, said their scheme involves shifting funds to avoid "lethal" reductions to services for seniors, the disabled, and the Oregon State Police, which would be triggered by a defeat of Measure 28.
Why the secrecy? Because of fears that state bureaucrats will sabotage their plan, they say.

They know about the surplus, and they know that we know...
Watch the spending spree kick in. They've got to spend that money before it gets taken..

We probably don't have a huge surplus hidden in Kalifornia.
However an independent auditor said that the debt was no where near the 36 to 45 Billion $'s that Herr Davis was saying. That it was probably only about $5 billion.
It appears that the rats in Oregon and Kalifornia are working off the same page of the rat play book.
They scream about the huge deficit and announce massive layoffs of police and other needed services until the public says please raise our taxes.
The reality is that Oregon has a surplus and our debt is billions less. Their goal in both states is to implement massive tax increase via a lie.

It's interesting to see how the diferent Oregon departments horde the loot. They would rather take cuts than let some of their bankroll out.
Time to fire tham all, or make public officer fraud a 20 to life crime.

A lot of these so called deficits are in reality cuts in their proposed spending budgets and are not deficits or even cuts in spending.
Our local mayor is one of the old fashioned democrats, basically a good guy. He found funds squirreled up all over when he became mayor. Quietly those funds came back into his budget for the biggest repair funding of streets, sidewalks, schools and other fixed infra structure assets since the early 70's. He has even added real street cops to the payroll instead of PC desk jockeys.

It's amazing no one gets on these CAFR's. I played around with the figures for Texas and came up with 250 GRAND for every LEGAL resident for '96. Can't remember where I got those figures, but people need to wake up about this scam of CAFR's

It's interesting to see, via watching some national news, the multitude of states with budget problems, and the same threats of cutting essential services, its absolutely nationwide. These Political tactics run true everywhere you look.

Here's the answer...other than the obvious of locking up the criminal legislooters! Sell off a BUNCH of Oregon State owned land. Turn 'em into taxpayers. Problem solved.

Thanks for the ping, EBUCK. I hope the Republicans keep their mouths shut until after the election!

Kalifornians have never wanted to pay for the demands they put on Oregon's infrastructure when they invaded.
They're still looking for a way to pass the buck to pay for the land they ruined.
It's a losing battle, proves you can't be too picky who you border.

It should be a crime to lie to voters about debt or current surpluses or deficits.

Oregon has never been at deficit. Isn't now.
Reports of this situation are greatly exaggerated.
Budget deficits are, as in most states, unconstitutional in Oregon, and the state is at surplus 100% of the time. Is now. Will be after Jan 28, pass or fail the tax measure.
Budgets will also increase this year over last year, whether or not the tax measure passes.
Yeah I know you were being sarcastic.
But I'm not. Just wholly p*ssed off about this fraud that's been perpetrated here for the past year. It's a crime for which people should be going to jail, bottom line.

Thanks fer the ping. And jest wondering, are we supposed to be excerpting redguard articles now? I never have.
I read the piece in the real paper version a couple days ago.
The bold line they take that they keep the plan in secret to keep the bureaucrats from hiding or spending the (our) money is interesting. Of course one can expect said bureaucrats to claim these guys are being hateful, characterizing them as nazis, whatever. This paper will make sure the predicted response is reported as serious.

A friend of mine in the Eugene area was hired as a "new" substitute special ed teacher last fall.
She's being laid off January 28th.....So that the headlines read: "Special Education Suffers-Teachers Laid Off"
Sounds like the typical liberal shell game.
