Another question I would like answered is; Why did he get off so easily? I remember seeing other cases of "internet predator perves" being arrested and charged with much more serious offenses. And they were met by the police and not the underage target, just like Scritter.

Based on my own experiences in court (I am a lawyer, not a pervert) and based on the news reports, Ritter's lying when he says "the case was dismissed and therefore I have the presumption of innocence." There's more to it than that.

What really happened is that the case was continued for six months while he went to court-ordered sex offender counseling, and then the case was dismissed on good behavior.

Which means either he plead guilty or, more likely, he made an Alford plea (no contest, nolo contendere, stipulation that there is sufficient evidence to find him guilty without an admission of guilt). Based on that and what the prosecutor told him, the judge made a finding of guilt but agreed to dismiss the case if Ritter went to counseling. Courts do not have the legal power to order an innocent man to go to counseling.

Legally, Ritter's not entitled to the presumption of innocence. He's blowing smoke, but that's nothing new.

I think it's disgusting that the file was sealed. Here in Virginia you couldn't do it unless there was a real minor involved, not a cop pretending to be a minor.

Exactly, not one time but two times he not only talks on line but actually go to meet underage. So why are not the people who let him off explaining themselves?

There is a decided resemblance. He'll make a great human shield.

Needs the all-new BK motto emblazoned across his chest -- "I Do Me Your Way"

Okay, this has possibilities.

"Hold your pickle,
Hold the lettuce,
Your perversions
Don't upset us..."

Scott Buttafuco?

I read this earlier this morning, with everyone in the house asleep. Choking on my coffee sounded like this: GWUMMPFF.

"...on suspicions that he changed sides regarding Iraq because of a payoff/blackmail."

We're seeing the same media strategy that was applied to damage-control the Clinton scandals, namely, "it's all about sex." Not perjury, not obstruction of justice, not witness tampering, not abuse of power, not illegal Chinese campaign money. Nope. It's all about sex. And Ritter, the child molester, liar and turncoat, has the gall, the crowning arrogance to call for George Bush's impeachment.

". . . as far as everyone should be concerned, this is a dead issue."

But, what about mother's of teenage daughters in your neighborhood? Just because YOU say so, pervert Ritter, THEY should not be concerned, either?

And there are some other intriguing aspects to all this. A long-time ADA basically threw away her career to run interference for Ritter. Why?

No DA in his right mind would ever trust her again. In fact, it's unlikely that any senior partner would ever trust her, because if he ever got burned he couldn't say he didn't have fair warning. It will be most interesting to see whether she finds work again and, if so, in what capacity and with whom.

Further, there is now a public perception that the Albany criminal justice system accords special treatment to certain favored defendants. Will anybody be demanding that the state of New York look into this? Will the state sweep it under the rug? Because if they do, the public perception will only worsen. And there are federal implications here. We're all supposed to be equal under the law.

"What's next?"

Indeed. What is next? It's extremely unlikely that Ritter is "cured" of his pedophilia, which means he is almost certain to re-offend. Probably, he already has done so. As I've said elsewhere, we haven't heard the end of this. Somebody is going to probe his past and I'm betting that he will hit paydirt (so to speak).

I'd be willing to bet that Scottie was flipped before this arrest, which might also explain why Ritter is still appearing in public: there's a lot more on him than just this.

Oh, I agree absolutely, mewzilla. But you know what? Ritter will now be looking over his shoulder everywhere he goes. An aggressive young investigative reporter could go from obscurity to fame in an instant by cracking Ritter's past. And does anybody doubt that interested parties already have their own private investigators sniffing Ritter's tracks wherever they lead?

Perhaps we can turn lemons into lemonade. He's a former Marine. Recall him to active duty, drop him into Baghdad with orders to b*gger Saddam. If Saddam walks with a hitch, we'll know he's accomplished his mission.

Agreed. There's no reason to keep shielding this shill.

Even Taliban Johnny isn't considered a "traitor" in the press. What does someone need to do to betray his country these days? The press didn't leave Tim McVeigh's actions on his shoulders, they tried to play him off as a victim of circumstance whipped up into a frenzy by "right wing radio".

Without a moral compass and some definitions set in stone, no one will ever be judged for acting against America.
