Hmmm... We start softening the site with air strikes, maybe in Basra first, I think Anan will get the message.

Look for the inspectors to leave soon - SOTU may give us the answer.

Um, are you implying that Koffee would use UN Inspectors as human shields? If he did that, he should be thrown in the ocean and forced to swim to Europe or Africa, his choice...

I don't think Anan's feelings or orders will matter-the UN inspectors, given word of immediate attack, will leave whether Anan says stay or not. However, the Iraqi's are watching their movements like hawks, and should a mass exodus occur, with some rush to it, Iraq will know the sky is about to light up and the future is about to change!
HURRAY for ALL of the Iraqi people who have suffered under the heavy cruel hand of Saddam. Their liberation is near and there is NOTHING BETTER! God Speed our troops, leaders and the innocents in Iraq.

DAY of SUPPORT....FLY your flags (US, a British one, Hungarian, Australian and Japanese one, too if you have them)....and put up your BUSH/CHENEY signs, (and the BIG W's on your SUV's) for the STATE of the UNION next Tuesday, Jan 28th, if you support the President, our MILITARY and the United States of America.
PSST....pass it on. I've wondered about the use of the Inspectors as "shields" for months.....

Would expect to see a UN convoy leaving Baghdad any day after Blex delivers his evidence to the UN.
If Annan thinks he could pull this little stunt and the US wouldn't go in -- he had better think again. The UN is becoming more irrelevant by the day!

The Euphrates dam and Tikrit should not be neglected.

Would expect to see a UN convoy leaving Baghdad any day after Blex delivers his evidence to the UN. Interesting. Maybe even congruently-this may be the timer, indeed. Only my guess-depending on the timing of Blix's address-and I would be very interested in the actual hour-it may only be milliseconds after his delivery-not only to stay with the momentum, but to denude further babble from the security council (security council-----lol----what a JOKE!)

WILL U.S. RISK DEATH OF INSPECTORS? Why wouldn't we? Our pilots and troops are at risk. Heck, as we saw on 911, we're all at risk.
But I hear leftist human shields are worth 20 bonus points per bullseye.

I would suspect that the US would notify Annan a couple of days in advance, if he failed to order the inspectors out, their fate would be his doing.

Q: Do you consider the recent discovery of warheads to be a material breach of the U.N. resolution?
Rumsfeld: I don't know. I think that, really, the only way inspectors can find anything is if the Iraqi government cooperates and shows them to them, and people are looking at those warheads now. I think it's probably early to make a judgment about them, but I think what really is being tested is not whether something can be found, because inspectors can't find things; they can only inspect what they've been shown. And the real test that's taking place is the issue as to whether or not the Iraqi regime is going to be cooperative with the United Nations. And thus far, they've filed a false declaration of what they have. They have refused to provide the lists of scientists that they are required to provide, so that the scientists can be taken out of the country, and talked to in safety with their families, and won't be killed by Saddam Hussein

Probably no need though, since I believe the inspectors are based in Cypress and aren't living in Iraq on a day to day basis. They just won't be able to show up in Iraq when it's time. And Kofi won't know when it's time, either, much less be able to get inspectors to get in there and find a rocket launcher to hug for Saddam.
Usually presidents formally announce things after, not before, they occur. His St. Louis speech sounds like "the fat lady singing speech" so far, though.

They'll be snug as a bug in a rug if they just stay in their hotel..... I can understand how ya might feel this way, considering the absolutely fabulously advanced technology we have been hearing about (and have evidenced in the Gulf War).
But my take would be that Saddam, that heathan, that serpent of satan, that brainless machine of hatred, greed, oppression and death would kill the UN inspectors in the wink of an eye or advertise their plight to the world via video, and of course, blame it on the US.
