(updated: January 20th, 5:50pm) The spotlight is back on former UN Weapons Inspector and Delmar native, Scott Ritter. But it's not over Iraq instead its over charges he talked with an underage girl on the Internet.

The Daily Gazette broke the story over the weekend. The paper says Ritter was arrested in June of 2001 after having a sexual conversation on the Internet with someone he "thought" was an underage girl. The girl turned out to be an undercover investigator.

Sources tell NEWS10 that Ritter contacted what he thought was a teenage girl on the internet for the purpose of a sexual interlude not once, but twice within a three month period back in 2001. Ritter also underwent court-ordered sex offender counseling from an Albany psychologist.

TLB....all I have seen is NUMEROUS people ask you for a link to your discussion.

Why is that so hard to provide? Wouldn't you ask the same from someone making unsubstaniated claims? And if you DID ask......and no proof was forthcoming, what would be your conclusion regarding said claims?

Britt Hume said tonight that Scott Ritter claims that he is not the same Scott Ritter as the one arrested for sex crimes. Obviously Ritter has lied so many times that he doesn't know what the truth is any more!

A Disney exec was popped in a similar sting a few years back with an "11-year-old girl".

If I had a dollar for every John popped by the police sting of women cops in hot pants on Cops I could make a sizable donation to Free Republic.

Scott Ritter has a despicable track record, trying for a perceived 14-year-old and a perceived 16-year-old.

It makes me wonder about his report from the Iraqi orphanage.

Ritter did a Linda Blair on the subject of Saddam, and now seems to have carnal lust for Linda Blair.

Ritter is aiming for the cover of Perpmate posing in his orange jumpsuit.

I wouldn't jump to conclusions about Ritter right now.

The guy was a Marine with an Intel background. Even I know there is a digital trail for 38 year-old, fat, bald, male cops posing as teenage girls. I can't believe Ritter would do anything so stupid.

Probably "she" sent him a pic and engaged him first.

could you ping me on that mugshot thread? I heard Brit say Ritter was denying the allegation..."you got the wrong guy", he said. And really, that sounded so casual, easily chosen words, I thought it had a ring of truth to it. I'd be interested in seeing the proof.

He may not have had to use it...

There's always the good ol' boys who will think, well, I'll let him off this once. They don't need to be asked, they just do it as if for an old pal. And since he was a Marine, that will show up when they run his ID, so he wouldn't have to rub their noses in it. Though knowing his behavior on TV, I wouldn't be surprised if he did.

If he has formally sealed records it wouldn't even be something in which he has a choice- they may be sealed no matter what he does due to his former occupation. I do know that people in sensitive positions have sealed records that simply cannot be rooted into by Matt Drudge or CNN, unless someone crews up and leaks them. It doesn't mean such people can't or won't be punished, it just means that their public record is a dead end and record of said punishment may be sealed "of the public record." Their punishment may be a dead-end career, too, a loss of retirement benefits, forced dismissal, definitely a loss of the former security clearance.

Take Ritter, for instance: he was cut off from the flow of information but other UNSCOM personnel were not, which pretty much means he lost his security clearance for some reason. He says it was because of suspicion he was spying for Israel- other people say it was because of suspicions he was giving sensitive info to Russia and possibly Israel. No one knows but those with clearances to know. But it may simply have been because he got caught up in a sex sting and was flagged for being a possible blackmail target for just about anyone that cared to try. Or a combination fo the above.

Career over. Later he resigns, claiming he did so because he was outraged that the Clinton administration wasn't tough enough. That the Clinton admin bombing of Sudan's pharmaceuticl plant and Afghanistan training camps only days before his resignation may also be a factor in his anger, since he appears to be a UNaholic.

I don't. I spoke to Ritter today and he didn't comment on it, because when a case is sealed the people involved are ordered by the court not to discuss it. I don't blame him for keeping mum; hell, I'm basically a teeny little slice of the press as far as he's concerned. The article that was posted here said it was awaiting dismissal, so who knows what the deal is. If it's a smear, it's a good one. You wouldn't believe the email I'm getting on this.

I'm going to try and call the DA up there tomorrow.
