Families of Sniper Shooting Victims To Sue Rifle Maker

Thu Jan 16, 8:13 AM

() - The families of two sniper shooting victims will file a lawsuit Thursday against the maker of the rifle used in the attacks, and the shop where the gun was sold or stolen.

The suit is brought on by the families of James "Sonny" Buchanan and Conrad Johnson.

It alleges that Bushmaster firearms and Bull's Eye Shooter Supply of Tacoma, Washington, showed "gross negligence" that "caused injuries and death."

The owners of the store, Brian Borgelt and Charles Carr and sniper suspects John Allen Muhammad and John Lee Malvo are also named as defendants.

The families are seeking unspecified damages.

The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence is representing the families, who are seeking unspecified damages.

Bushmaster officials say they did nothing wrong by selling the gun.

The owners of the gun shop did not comment.

How does Sara Brady like those rifles she bought for her grandkids last year?

And they'll keep pecking away at gun companies with these types of suits. They'll keep trying it til they get through. It's a matter of time til they get the right judge and jury. They did it to tobacco companies, and they've learned from that success. We need tort reform now, and not just for the medical field.

Maybe they'll also sue McDonalds for selling the hamburgers without which the killers wouldn't have had strengt to pull the triggers.

"Guns for me, but not for thee."

Same as Rosie O' Donut.

I officially no longer have sympathy for these families. They can all go suck eggs.

You hit it right on the button-lawyers/liberals at it again. The gun "did it".

I wonder how many of those folks think that they are entitled to "bear arms". Let's check their credentials as they are guilty of promoting "murder" if they in fact own a gun or have ever shot one or even picked one up.

Can I sue the car maker because my dear friend died in a car/motorcycle crash? How about suing the motorcycle maker? No, & we should not be able to sue gun makers.

Forget the gun manufacturers and go right to the source! Sue those damnable mining companies that extracted the metal that made the guns!

Sue the universe!

If you want to go for the source...just who created the Earth and the resources? Who populated this Earth! If it hadn't been for God, none of these people would have died!

Yeah, I know it is absurd, but just watch someone pick this ball up and run with it! :-)

Suing the gunmaker is stupid, but I'm not so sure about the gunshop owner. This gun evidently went missing without anyone noticing. Don't they do an inventory of the guns in their shop? Was the gun ever reported missing and how long was it missing? There may have been some negligence at the store or it may have been outright criminal conduct by one of the employees of the store. Did someone falsified the inventory records? Was there an under-the-counter sell of a rifle by an employee or the owner?

I don't think these families are really trying to find out what happened, just going after the deep pockets.

The crooks in Tacoma were selling weapons under the counter without proper paper work and deserve to get sued. If Bushmaster had any inkling of what was going on then they also deserve to be sued. Nobody can make the legitimate claim that Bullseye by ignoring normal procedures before transferring a weapon used ordinary care in conducting their business and they are definitely negligent. Negligence is ample proof for a civil suit to be decided against them.
