LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - An officer fatally shot the son of one of the Little Rock Nine, the group of blacks who integrated the city's schools in 1957, police said.
Police said they were called after neighbors saw Erin Eckford, 26, firing an assault rifle into the air Wednesday night.

Checking the source, I see that this wasn't from the L.A. Times. Were it reported there, at least one paragraph would have been dedicated to blaming the NRA for opposing the ban on assault weapons!

A guy shooting a gun in the air is crying out for help. I guess that "help" was delivered by Arkansas' finest. I can't help but believe that there could have been a better outcome if the cops had sent out a shrink instead of a bunch of guns.

I read about this in the Arkansas paper today. The thing that caught my attention is the lady who called said he owned many guns meaning she knew of his prior record and did nothing about it in the past. There was also a person who lived in the area and his quote was "There is no justice in the hood". It said the cops begged with him to put the SKS rifle down but he brought it up to chest level this was after he had fired shots in the groud in the direction of the police.
