Feingold has to be vulnerable, especially if Tommie runs.

It will take some bald-faced honesty. Most politicians, on either side, seem to have an aversion to the truth on that situation. The fact is, I sat next to the president of the SD Farmer's Union on a flight last year, and he said that if all subsidies stopped, all farmers would suffer heavily for a couple of years, 35% of producers would go out of business, and the other 65% would make decent money when the dust settled.

Georgia might be a pickup for Republicans. Zell Miller has said he would only serve one term.

Did Zell Miller run, or was he appointed by the governor because of the death of Paul Coverdale?

Yes. Have heard that Jeff Flake (R) may challenge him. Arizonans are strange in that the only smart voters are those who follow FR. Napolitano won and it sickens me.

Re Zell: both: first appointed, then won a special election. He's a shoo-in if he runs again, and hasn't said either way, though he's clearly not enamoured of the natnl Rat party and has little keeping him in the senate.

Re Daschle: "Except as provided by § 12-5-4 and as may be otherwise provided in chapter 12-9, no candidate for any office to be filled, or nomination to be made, at the primary election, other than a presidential election, may have that person's name printed upon the official primary election ballot of that person's party, unless a petition has been filed on that person's behalf not prior to January twentieth, at eight a.m., and not later than the first Tuesday of April at five p.m. prior to the date of the primary election"

On the R side I hope Fitz holds on in IL

Peter will most likely be challenged in the primary. Some predict it will come from the right, others predict it will come from the RINO establishment. Amazing that it would happen at all to Illinois' only significant statewide elected official, but the IL GOP eats its young. Most likely it's because Peter doesn't play by anyone's rules but his own, which is infuriating to party leaders on both sides of the aisle.

Orange Co. Sheriff Michael Corona,...

Corona is very electable, I thought that L.A. County Sheriff Baca might run at one time.

There is increasing speculation in wire stories today that if Daschle runs for prez, he'll announce his decision not to seek another term as senator.

Wouldn't that be a gift from God.

And it would wreck RAT fundraising for the next cycle, which would further deter candidate recruiting. And it would hasten RAT retirements, including Hollings, Reid, Zell Miller and possibly Bob Graham of Florida.

Our goal: permanent minority status for RATS.

He may be in the best position to be the challenger, but I don't think he'll win. He couldn't beat Johnson, who is demonstrably the weaker of the the two Rats from SD.

That's true, but even with the fraud, etc., on the Rat side, it was a few hundred votes. Many voters who say they are Republican voted for Johnson because they expected the Rats to hold the Senate, and it was really a vote for the Majority Leader being from their state.

They won't make that mistake next time.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Arnold Schwarzeneggar as her replacement.

He's suspect as a RINO though, just by the fact of the people who made him rich are all liberals. His first political act was a tax and spend program for after shool sports. A good cause, but a liberal one, and particularly wrong-headed when Cali has a $30 billion budget shortfall.

Yes Reagan was an actor, but also a former Army guy, a union leader and a well known political speaker all before being Gov. Is he pro life? Is he pro RKBA? All unknown I think. It will be a "Hillary" style no issues allowed campaing all about celebrity. This is not good for our Republic.

Good points! I can't wait to see the Democrats try to finance 7 presidential bids and ten vulnerable senate seats: the only GOP seats they'll even try to be competitive in are Alaska with Knowles and Illinois, but Mosley-Braun could wreck those hopes, ha ha ha! (Pending McCain & Specter primaries).

Harry Reid WILL run again, however, 'cause he relishes being minority leader and won't give up that chance. Of course, he still may end up being retired!! :)

Republicans should be able to pump resources into places like Delaware and West Virginia, small states with GOP potential and Rat incumbent governors. The DuPont family has selected judge Bill Lee to run in Delaware; it's time to return that state to Red.

**(Oregon) Ron Wyden**

I would like to see this dim unseated!

Any good Republican candidate calls for Oregon?

Arnold is LIBERAL (pro-abortion, etc) on social issues and moderate on fiscal ones, which is why he'd be an awful choice for senate. He'd probable be fine as governor, though. US Treasurer Rosario Marin, Peter Ueberroth or Sheriff Carona would be good candidates -- I don't think much of the cali congressmen and Condi may be the next Sec. State if Colin Powell decides to hang it up, as rumored.

And GWB will be at the top of the ticket in SD... which helps Thune and hurts Daschle.

Presidential run is the excuse, but Daschle is cutting and running. The Thune people are scaring him into retirement.

I'll hold my nose and accept Arnold for the Senate, but I'd be a lot happier if he were divorced.

How do you plan on beating Barbara Boxer, when you cannot even control the illegal voting.??

Schwarzeneggar is a fiscal conservative and a "social moderate", as he describes it. Frankly, that probably makes him electable in 2004 when California voters will be fed up with Democrats running budgetary matters.

He's certainly not the model of conservatism, but I'm one of those who would take any Republican over Barbara Boxer. There are actually relatively few votes in the Senate on "social" matters anyway, and if we can ever get to 60 votes in the Senate for most GOP agenda items, we'll be dancing in the streets.
