MWL seeks apology By a Staff Writer
MAKKAH, 26 December 2002 The Muslim World League yesterday condemned a media campaign in the United States against Islam, particularly against the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and expressed the strong displeasure of the entire Muslim community at such vilification and insinuations.
League Secretary-General Abdullah Al-Turki was reacting to the publication of a caricature by Doug Marlette in the Tallahassee Democrat, showing an Arab driving a lorry resembling the truck used by the Oklahoma bomber Thomas McVeigh in his attack on the Alfred P. Murrah Building. The cartoon showed the truck carrying a nuclear warhead under the title: "What would Mohammed drive?"
Commenting on the extremely objectionable cartoon, Turki said: "Some enemies of Islam have been trying to tarnish the image of Muhammad (pbuh) just as they publish misleading information about and wrong interpretation of the Holy Quran."
Turki demanded that the Tallahassee Democrat apologize to the 1.5 billion Muslims and give an undertaking that it will not publish such disparaging material again.

Commenting on the extremely objectionable cartoon, Turki said: "Some enemies of Islam have been trying to tarnish the image of Muhammad (pbuh) just as they publish misleading information about and wrong interpretation of the Holy Quran."I wish someone would enlighten me as to how the prima facie interpretation of these Surahs, and the many others like them, is wrong:
[8.12] When your Lord revealed to the angels: I am with you, therefore make firm those who believe. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them.
[8.13] This is because they acted adversely to Allah and His Apostle; and whoever acts adversely to Allah and His Apostle-- then surely Allah is severe in requiting (evil).
[8.14] This-- taste it, and (know) that for the unbelievers is the chastisement of fire.

To: League Secretary-General Abdullah Al-Turki:
Please take some time and get over yourself.Media Campaign? You are Funny! You and your "League" obviously don't listen to the public statements of our President and I doubt you subscribe to the "Tallahassee Democrat". This was printed in AMERICA, the land where there is "Freedom of Expression" .Since Richard Nixon could handle it,for all those years after he resigned 'and unlike you, he lived here and owned up to his mistakes' , you can certainly tolerate it 1/2 a world away. I believe you're making a public statement about it to subconsciously draw mainstream Muslims throughout the world against Americans wherever they may reside. Thanks for raising the ante Mr. Al-Turki,we'll remember that too.Now please, so go shake yourself!

This is the scary thing about Muslims: any Muslim will tell you that they cannot allow the "prophet" or Islam to be insulted in any way. They will tell you that it is their duty to defend these two things by any means necessary. And those are the "moderates" talking, folks.
I am slowly coming to the realization that there ARE no moderate Muslims. They are all fanatics--the only difference between them is different degrees of fanaticism.

Allah should be able to defend himself if he's the real thing. Christianity has had centuries of inquiry and insult and keeps going and going like the energizer bunny. The Truth always endures while lies fall away.

I certainly was not offended... BTW Victoria, I'd like to wish you a (belated) Merry Christmas!:)

Thank you. Merry Christmas to you as well.

The cartoon only shows one aspect of bin Laden. Where are the little girls? The concubines? The belly dancers for him to pick and choose?

Mohammed was not a man who was sensitive about any people other than muslims. Who needs him?

Exactly. I think the cartoon is devastatingly accurate, and quite funny, and I am not sorry about that one bit. Neener neener, Mr. Al-Turki. ;-P
