WASHINGTON (Dec. 22) - John Kerry and Joseph Lieberman have the most support among Democrats when asked about the field of likely 2004 candidates for the Democratic presidential nomination, a poll suggests.
But Hillary Rodham Clinton would lead if she were to enter the field.
Among the current field of likely candidates, Democrats put Sens. Kerry of Massachusetts and Lieberman of Connecticut at 16 percent followed by Rep. Dick Gephardt of Missouri at 10 percent, with others in single digits. Twenty-four percent said they were unsure.
In an expanded field that included Clinton, the New York senator was the choice of 30 percent of registered Democrats in a Time/CNN poll released Saturday. Clinton aides have said consistently that she does not plan to run in 2004.
Trailing Clinton with 13 percent each were Kerry and Lieberman with others in single digits.
Previous polls of Democrats had put Al Gore, the 2000 Democratic nominee, at the top among potential 2004 candidates. When Clinton was included in those early polls, she was not far behind. Gore announced last weekend he would not run in 2004.
Such early polls are largely a measure of the public's familiarity with potential candidates.
Among the field of likely candidates, Kerry has formed an exploratory committee, Vermont Gov. Howard Dean says he is running and others say they will announce their intentions soon.
In hypothetical matchups against President Bush, Lieberman trailed 54-40 and Kerry was behind 55-40, according to registered voters surveyed.
The telephone survey of 1,006 adults, 18 and older, was conducted Tuesday and Wednesday, and had an error margin of plus or minus 3 percentage points, larger for subgroups.

Notice how they posted the poll results for these hypothetical matchups between Bush and either Lieberman or Kerry, but no results were posted against Hillary.
The speculation I heard on the radio today is that these results will never be posted anytime soon because Bush kicks Hillary's @ss from one end of the country to the other. A poll by the New York Post recently showed Hillary trailing Bush by a 45-42 margin.
Oh, and that poll only included voters in New York, which is probably the only place other than the District of Columbia that she has a prayer of winning.

Lord, hasn't she sown enough without consequences? Hasn't she dispensed enough death and destruction? Hasn't her arrogance assaulted our land and Heaven more than enough? Isn't she a sufficient insult to all called Christian . . . that YOU, OH LORD--YOU WHO HAVE THE HEARTS OF KINGS IN YOUR HANDS--YOU OH LORD--please let it me time for You to cause her reaping to begin--wholesale!
Let her not get remotely close to the Oval office ever again. Let her not set foot in the WhiteHouse even for a social event as Senator--let her be ill or whatever it takes to keep her out. She has insulted the office and the White House far far too much as is, Lord.
Cause her to have to leave the Senate prematurely due to legal revelations of her complicity in many of her felonies. Cause her to become so friendless that her mental stability is shredded. Let the rot she infected the nation with effect her health.
IF POSSIBLE, LORD, FINE, SAVE HER--AND COMPELL HER TO CONFESS ALL PUBLICALLY ACCORDINGLY.
If not, remove her ASAP from the public stage and the assault on all hint of righteousness that her mouthing off represents.
Lord, we are weary to the death of her assaults on all that's good. We are sick to the death of her Olympic class hypocrisy. Our ears are developing automatic slam shut doors because of the assaults of her mouth.
PLEASE, LORD, DELIVER US!!!! IN JESUS' NAME, AMEN.
