"Will doesn't think that Pickering will be renominated because of what Lott's done. Lott's a liar, as well. He says that he was speaking of Thurmond's support of defense in the '48 party platform-- only, there's "not a syllable" about national defense in the Democratic platform for that year. Lott is a closet racist/segregationist. Too bad for him. Too bad for the Republicans if he stays as majority leader."

They are all SOBs with no balls. They disgust me.
The Republicans are morphing into Dems right in front of our eyes.
Sickening.
To: ewing
Rumor has it Lott will resign as a senator if he is outted. That puts the power of the Senate back in the hands of the Dems. Tenn. has a Dem Governor.
If Dems take over again, we'd better start stocking upon Turbins and Burkas.
Dems hate America. They want their "new and improved USSA."

"You are a sleaze-bag, Karl, to gin up bogus "RACIST!!! RACIST!!! RACIST!!!" slander from whole cloth. Shame on you. If you want Lott out, be forthright about it instead of using Jesse Jackson's sleazy tactics."
Good grief. Karl Rove and W are the two best things to happen to the Republican party and CONSERVATIVES in over a decade. Get a grip.

He is not VERY consevative. He's a decent man but he's no DeLay ideology wise.
We are empowering the race hustlers big time with this cannibalistic capitulation.

Good post. Self righteous indignation seems to have no limits on this forum anymore.
There are only a handful of honest FReepers left on this friggin race issue. The rest are self virtue enriching fools who are stumbling all over themselves to empower our foes and prove how racially sensitive they are.
It's a spectacle.

The only reasons that some southern blacks have chips on their shoulders is because Jesse jackson wants them to.If Jessie or Al Sharpton were to quit race baiting and feeding the racial divide , they'd be out of a job.
In order for them to make a living, they need racism to survive.

That's right. There is only a chosen few Freepers that speak the truth. The rest are alien infiltrators. Keep it up and you will qualify for Limbaugh's kook test.

We are empowering the race hustlers big time with this cannibalistic capitulation. Ain't that the truth. The Dems and racial demagogues are loving every second of this sh/t. Now that they know the formula to get Elephants to eat their own kind, they'll be encouraged to dig up anything even remotely "racist" on any elected Republican to see if they can get a repeat performance.
I'm no fan of Lott's, and I've been hoping to see him ousted from the majority leader position for quite some time now. But not for any of the reasons he's been getting vilified for this week, and certainly not under these circumstances. A lot of Republicans are going to be horrified in a few weeks when they step back and see what they've done.

Frist can roll out his record all he wants.
He can't erase the fact I watched him on TV once say that he was for a woman's right to choose.

Senator Frist is no friend of conservatives.
Putting Frist in the Majority Leadership would be a step backwards for the Republican Party, and seriously imperil the golden opportunity we have in '04 to unify and consolidate our postion as the majority party in the United States.

A lot of Republicans are going to be horrified in a few weeks when they step back and see what they've done. My sentiments exactly. I would never have chosen to defend Lott. I am shocked at the weakness of the Pubbies and the majority on this forum. They are all prisoners of the racist tag snake oil. Just look at the media's upcoming covers. Does any fool think we have anything at all to gain from not making a stand against this perpetual Inquisition about who's racially sensitive enough. Fools.....weakass fools.
To: ewing
This is rather blunt. But it is the truth! Bush, with all of his grovelling gets what? About 8% of the black vote. If we kowtow to the neoracists and deep six Lott, what are we going to get? 8-1/2% Didn't La. election prove that blacks vote as a monolithic block according to how their handlers tell them. It's going to take generations or some great change before most blacks think for themselves and spread their votes over the political spectrum and vote according to their interests rather than how the liberal RAT plantation owners tell them.
I didn't like the impeachment-fixer Lott before this stupid incident but we can't secretly dump him now at the behest of Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson.
To: E. Pluribus Unum
So did your math take into account that if Lott does resign, he will resign PERIOD?
Not according to Lott.
Lott, for his part, distanced himself from the threateven as aides still were making it on his behalf. My term runs through 2006, he told NEWSWEEK. I intend to serve it, whatever happens.

What more perfect revenge on the sleazebags like you who ginned up this "RACIST!!! RACIST!!! RACIST!!!" smear so you could get somebody in as majority leader you like better.
Nothing was ginned up.
Lott's scripted Dixiecrat homage drew adible gasps and no applause at Thurmond's centenary. No one made him babble such nonsense. After several late and bumbling attempts at apologies, Lott was instructed by President Bush to disavow segregation on Larry King Live... and didn't do it. That lead to Bush's rebuke in Philadelphia, which fineally spurred Lott to say what never should have needed saying (but for his own stupidity) in the first place, that segregation was bad.
Time and again the man threw himself in from of onrushing trains. It's a singularly memorable self-destruction, one for the books.
Conveniently enough, your high moral standards dicate that Trent is too big a racist to remain as leader, but they are flexible enough to allow a RACIST RACIST RACIST to remain in office to preserve your majority.
Conveniently enough for me, your reliance on caps doesn't obscure your straw man argument. I've never said Lott was a racist.
If you win, Trent will resign from the Senate, and once again the STUPID PARTY will snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
Well, he's said he wouldn't resign, hasn't he? And why would you think I would submit to blackmail anyway?
I don't fault those who are sticking by Lott, but the stupidity has truly been his alone. He's got four years left, and he intends to serve them. Let's hope he snaps out of it.

That's not what Lott told Newsweek. See the MSNBC link at #199.
