I am adamnatly opposed to Trent Lott stepping down from ML leader at this point in time and I and a few others like sinkspur have been making that case all week long.

Appeasement never works, ever.

words don't mean jack-sh*t

Tell it to Trent Lott.

Tell it to Patrick Henry.

If bending down and kissing the behind of the race baiters and promising them the moon as penance for what you say is an imagined offense is 'exhibiting balls', then we have completely different definitions of what that means.

I can live with that.

Wow.

Yeah, I understand that we aren't on the same page about that. But I do think we are on the same page as to what, in the absense of the circus, would be best for us.

I should hope so. It was a morally outrageous sentence.

Hardly. What you inferred from that sentence was morally outrageous and you can infer any damn thing you please.

But then it becomes incumbent on you to prove that your inferrence is correct and you can't or won't do it. Be my guest surf away.

However keep this in mind, the party that doesn't practice the politics of personal destruction and their allies in the press have been Lexus Nexusing for about 200 hours now and the beat they have come up with thus far is Lott voted to segregate his fraternity in Mississippi 40 years ago.

You're amazed that I can live with not being in lock step with your judgement?

Then why is he kowtowing to them and promising them the moon?

By the way, I agree with you that appeasement never works. But I do not see this as a case of appeasement.

No matter what we do, the race baiting poverty pimps are going to castigate us. Period. They won't be emboldened if we dump Lott. They won't be satiated if we do. Appeasement is giving something an oppressor wants to them hoping to get them to ease up. They won't ease up, and they don't really want Lott gone.

The people we would be making a change for are ourselves for our own moral integrity and political benefit when aiming at the voters we hope to sway. We would not be making a change hoping that the baiters would stop. They won't.

In other words, other than for our own integrity, the people we are aiming for are not needing appeasement. The undecided voters are not the ones clamoring. But they are ones who will be listening in a few years to all the ads, and they are the ones who will be watching what we say and do.

You propose the government starve people in order to force them to take a job for less than current minimum wage.

You only seem to approve of contracts when they help you out. Government is a contract. Government has the right, even obligation to assure that none starve to death. Government protects the people in exchange for taxes and the right to make laws. This includes laws that protect the poor from people like you.

If you don't like America get the he!! out. Contract with some other country. I guarantee you won't find a better one though.

Isn't it much more likely that Lott will be in the thrall of the Bush White House than the CBC? Just what leverage will they have over the functioning of the Senate?

Can't you see how Bush owns Lott and has since November 6th?

God, what a stupid thing to say. No, ace, ALL people of good will were offended.

Sorry, lots of people saw it for what it was, a stupid, off-hand remark at a tribute for an old man.

You've apparently got your racial trip-wires in place.

Nobody paid any attention to what Lott said until Jesse Jackson, after Mary Landrieu wins her Senate seat, sets up Tim Russert on MTP, feigning outrage. Carl Levin, big time Democrat from Michigan, was also at the BD party, as was Paul Simon, former Senator from Illinois, who said he was surprised at the reaction, as he knew Lott meant nothing by what he said.

Bush waited six days to voice his outrage if, indeed, he was outraged.

This is such a phoney "crisis." I'm frankly surprised you've gotten sucked in by it.

He's doing penance for holding views many years ago that were immoral. I have never had to do public penance for the sins that I have committed and they are many. I had a misspent youth.

I think it take's character to do what he is doing. I urged him to do it the first day. Better late than never.

President Bush is the leader of the Republican Party. He will set the agenda.

Actually, your misspent youth would get you boatloads of votes if you ran for office. It would soften your image. :)

I admit it could go either way. But if President Bush puts one in Hussein's ear and something more than anemic growth happens by the end of next year, I think it will work out.

Bush is not going to stop pushing for the minority vote. He truly believes that all men are created equal and endowed by the creator with rights and that every life is a precious one. Bush is the face of the party, not Lott.

And that is the important thing, and the right thing. I don't know who wrote Bush's speech this week, but that kicked ass. Every day that this country was segregated (or worse, had slavery) we were betraying the very tenets our nation was founded upon.

I agree.

This was phony from the get go.

There is nothing to see here.

But I hand it to Bush. He sure seems to know what moves to make and when to make them. It will be interesting to see how he makes this work for him but I am sure he will.

Maybe there is someone who can take over for Lott but none here seem to be supporting anyone else they are just Anti-Lott.

Come on either tell me why someone else would be better or shut up. Why do republicans pile on their own players. Instead we need to help them up out of their messes. We can show them the door later if necessary.
