Trent Lott's lifetime rating by the ACU is 93%. Good luck, you'll need it.

Now that is something I might buy into.

And not just the willingness to fight. If Lott has been someone who isn't a racist but has had a strange tolerance for those who are, and he has gotten a kick in the ass that has finally caused him to understand the reasons that our conservative philosophy is incompatible with racist views and that he must not act is if they are no big deal but instead repudiate them whenever he encounters them, then something good may have come out of all this and he might be salvageable. But the proof will be in the pudding.

A nickel bet, bet he breaks his butt working to pass GWB`s agenda.

Yeah, if he can find time in between working for the Black Caucus' little projects.

Sometimes men need a push in the right direction to realize they have what it takes. It happens.

In Lott's case, said push was a size 12 boondocker administered repeatedly to the fundament before he figured it out.

I swear, his IQ test results must be in the range marked "frequently outwitted by inanimate objects...particularly those with zero moving parts."

Bush pushed, Lott found some balls.

Did he find them soon enough?

I got a bad feeling the answer's "no."

If bending down and kissing the behind of the race baiters and promising them the moon as penance for what you say is an imagined offense is 'exhibiting balls', then we have completely different definitions of what that means.

I can live with that.

why don't you examine his record and convince us that his deeds have been racist.

Earth to jwalsh: the arsenal of politicians is their words.

From the great prophets to the philosophers to the Founders, words are how they stake their claim on history.

As has Trent Lott.

Ditto!

I Did not and cannot vote for Lott but can for other republicans.

Republicans with integrity which I hope is NOT affected by the actions of a repeated fool.

If character matters how come Trent’s does not?

Are we really better then the dims or just another power play party?

I think we are!

Are we conservatives or republicans?

I challenge any one to find any such serious introspection(s) on important issues at the dem.org site!

She should have the option of working or starving.

And you wonder why People call Republicans like yourself uncaring?

Unlike a CEO the poor must depend upon congress to protect themselves from people like you. Thank God some in cangress have some compassion and have kept Americans from starving.

I really pitty you when you meet your maker.

But the proof will be in the pudding.

I agree wit that.

I also agree with Poohbahs not so subtle evaluation of Trent Lotts neuron count which is why I would have voted for Frist, Santorum or McConnell in that order.

If your point was that we are unlikely to get a Majority Leader that votes that consistently for conservative positions, that may or not be the case. But that rating is for voting. Lott can provide the same impact on votes taken from a non-leadership slot in the Senate.

In other words, I think we would be much better suited at this point in time with Santorum, Nickles, McConnell or Frist (in order of preference)

That's what this is about. Black people. We wouldn't be discussing this whole thing if black people hadn't gotten their backs up over remarks made off the cuff at a tribute to an old man!

BLACK PEOPLE??? GOT THEIR BACKS UP??????

God, what a stupid thing to say. No, ace, ALL people of good will were offended.

Then why don't you post some of those words Maggie ole girl?

You judge a man by a sentence and are morally outraged. Give me a freakin break.

If Lott's pushed out by the racialists, nobody's safe. Nobody.

Except people with none of those kind of skeletons in their closet, maybe?

You would rather have a Majority Leader that is in thrall to the CBC than have one who has been perceived to have been forced out by them...and a replacement who doesn't have their hooks into him.

Doesn't make any sense to me. There are tons of Republicans who aren't going to get themselves sucked into this kind of compromised postion vis a vis race issues...and to assert that this could happen to the vast majority of Republicans is insulting, IMO.

And you wonder why People call Republicans like yourself uncaring?

Well, I care about rights--specifically, the right of people to freely contract, the right to one's property and the fruits of one's labor without others demanding that one give "charity" at gunpoint, that kind of thing.

Unlike a CEO the poor must depend upon congress to protect themselves from people like you.

I fail to see what I am doing to the poor that they need protection from.

I should hope so. It was a morally outrageous sentence.

From the great prophets to the philosophers to the Founders, words are how they stake their claim on history.

I thought actions were the measure of a man.

LBJ regularly used the "N" word in front of black members of his administration, yet signed the Civil Rights Bill.

If you can cite something from Lott's legislative past that indicates he votes against blacks (he does vote against quotas, which I hope you'd agree with), I'll be happy to reconsider.

But words don't mean jack-sh*t. Watch what men do, not what men say.
