This entire press conference was about Trent Lott standing up to the politicallly correct liberals who wanted to overrturn and nullify the November 2002 elections. There is no other way to explain it.
I was flipping the cchannels as the press conference ended and some blow hard on MSNBC was saying this wans't enough. What more can a person do than what Trent Lott just did? They wanted him to resign is what they wanted and hope to nullify the Republican control of the Senate.
Like Lott or not, it is now time for the Republicans to "circle the wagons" and unify behind Lott. If any Republican tries to rip Lott apart now, they merely fall into the hands of the liberal agenda. You will then become "putty in the their hands".

why isn't THURMOND HIMSELF being raked over the coals...??? 1. Because he's retiring. 2. Because he didn't make the idiotic statement, and, most important, 3. BECAUSE HE'S NOT THE MAJORITY LEADER OF THE SENATE!
Another question is why hasn't the entire State of North Carolina apologized for elected Thurmond? Why hasn't Lizzie Dole stepped down after praising Thurmond?
The whole issue is a non-issue. An issue entirely driven by the liberal media. Snore.

Who is the longest serving member of the Republican Party?

"Likewise, only naive ones would think that lousy, quisling-like "leadership" of the GOP caucus and putting your foot in your mouth big time aren't just different sides of the same counterfeit coin."Absolutely on the money, and beautifully said, too.

What about KKK Byrd? What about him? The problem is that Trent Lott has done incalculable damage to the GOP agenda in the Senate, and he's handed the initiative to the Democrats...
AGAIN.
He is called the "conscience of the senate" for crying out loud!!!
Yup. Ain't fair, is it?
Get over it. Life wasn't ever fair in the past, ain't fair now, and ain't going to be fair in the future.
What a damn joke!
You know, if Lott had learned how to NOT make an ass of himself in public, we wouldn't have this problem...
...but you seem hell-bent on excusing Lott for starting this fiasco.

wonder how much she has invested in Solomon, smith, Barney Frank? lol

"I could barely stand to listen." I felt the same way...because this is unjust. This whole "apologize for something you do not think or we'll burn you at the stake" is sickening.
Under the circumstance, though, I think Lott did just what he needed to do.
I wish Senator Lott God's peace, and Karl Rove's strength.

Wrong State.......SOUTH Carolina Senator Thurmond.
To: NYC GOP Chick
Doesn't that make him fourth in line to the Presidency if the worst should occur?
To: Endeavor
Whoa! What was that interruption - some guy from Al Sharpton's group?
Don't pay any attention...you will find soon that ANYBODY who questions the divine right of Saint Chester of Pascagoula to reign over the GOP to be one of Sharpton's lackeys.
How original. And they say we're the ones on a witchhunt...Sheesh...
To: Paladin2b
That's not the only "blast from the past" nonsense you'll find. If you look closely at some of the comments, you'll find the "they do it, too" defense, the "held to a different standard" defense, the "stand by your man" defense, and the "bigger fish to fry" defense. It was laughable coming from the Dems' party hacks during impeachment, but it's positively shameful when our own make the same tired "arguments."
To: cajun-jack
Today, Rush played a clip of Maxine referring to "Throm Sturmond".
I kid you not.

Bull to misperceptions, poor choice of words, and the like. His words clearly reveal ugly sentiments. All this Byrd, Condit, Hillary, etc. equivalency excuse-making can not obscure this fundamental fact. Those who trivialize Lott's words should read conservative black columnist Thomas Sowell's description of the indignities he personally suffered as a Marine during the Korean War from segregated public facilities. For Lott to continue to serve as senate majority leader will be immensely hurtful to the Republican Party.

Bush: "Tell ya what, Trent. I'll make you an offer you can't refuse..."
Lott: "Aw, come on, Mr. President! I said I was sorry!"
Bush: "See this speech? Karl Rove wrote it. Either you'll give it or you'll be pushin' up daisies next to Jimmy Hoffa...."
Lott: "urp..."
Be Seeing You,
Chris

>>If Lott weathers this storm, are you gonna keep screaming?
<<
Screaming, no. But ever since his handling of the impeachment, it has been an embarrassment to the party that an invertabrate such as him would be it's leader.
You can judge a man by the company he keeps and you can judge a party by the leader it has selected. His spineless carcass in the leadership role is not about him, it is about the republican party, such that it is.
Gee, maybe they should "power share."
For me, this issue is just a soapbox from which to rant about how I felt beforehand. This thing is a nit.

Roy Ennis can change but Trent Lott can't?! If Trent wants to undergo rehabilitation, he can do it from the back bench, or even a chairmanship for all I care.
But at this point in history, we need true leadership, and we need it badly.

"The whole issue is a non-issue. An issue entirely driven by the liberal media. Snore."But it's a LEFTY non-issue which means it'll hang on like the 2000 re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-count fiasco BECAUSE IT ISN'T LOTT THEY'RE AFTER, IT IS PRESIDENT BUSH THEY ARE AFTER.....come to think of it, AL GORE started THIS fiasco TOO.
To: Wordsmith
I'm NOT in Mississippi! I can also tell my jerk Democrat senator to vote against yours. lol! Na Na Na! Doesn't that sound a little childish?!
