I appreciate this post. I remember seeing an article in, I believe, Newsweek about Matt Drudge's page, and there I found a link to Free Republic. This must have been around '97 or '98, but I had to re-register once after that for some reason I've forgotten.
Anyway, it seems to me that we've got a lot to be grateful for to Jim, et al. FR is THE STANDARD for news forums, as far as I'm concerned.
I never really knew the ins and outs of how FR got started, so this is interesting, and reminds us of our own stake in the site, and responsibility to keep it going.
Thanks for pinging me, MeeknMing. This post is a keeper!

Man, I've been here awhile. I remember the first time Jim Robinson posted his personal story. I remember the March for Justice, though I did not attend. (Watched it on CSPAN.) The mood on FR, small though it was, was at a fever pitch.

Thank you, Jim Robinson, was sacrificing so much. This is the finest site on the web. God bless you. Romans 8:1.

Thanks for the ping M&M. I'm glad you found the article. I bookmarked it also for a later read.

I did not find it boring at all, and I have a new respect for JR and all he's done. God Bless a man like JR who will put himself on the line for what he believes in. He has truly made a difference, not only to me, but to our nation. Mere words cannot convey the thankfulness I feel now, for what he and all the other FR supporters have done to provide a forum for conservatism, patriotism, and freedom of religion. We must not let it die!
JR, you stand taller than any of us may have realized!

Thank you, my FRiend. I thought this was worth spreading.
I was talking with another FReeper last night via MSN Messenger and asked if he had seen the history about how FR had evolved. He hadn't. I thought I had bookmarked it, but it wasn't there.
My thanks to all the folks that I FReep mailed last night in my search to re-locate this article ! . . .
Hey, NBC News is supposed to mention FreeRepublic tonight on their Nightly News 5:30 Central Time. FReeper Bob J !
