"Saying he used "a poor choice of words," Trent Lott spoke with Sean on the newsmakers phoneline at length on December 11th in an exclusive interview. This follows a firestorm of criticism by Liberals and Conservatives alike in reaction to comments made by Lott at Sen Strom Thurman's 100th birthday party."
Amen. I don't know why Lott has always got a solid backing on FR, but no matter what stupid thing he does he can always find a ton of support here... go figure.
This "feezing" is done mostly by African-American party operatives. More than one of my friends and associates (from Hawaii) have tried to enter into local Democratic party politics only to be discouraged by the treatment they received by the African-Americans, and, of course, their "White Liberal Guilt" driven running dog lackies.
So, whachyoutalkin'bout boy?
If Al Sharpton really runs as an independant for President in 2004, he will suck the black vote away from the Democrat candidate..and GW wins in a landslide.
We should encourage Sharpton.
That's bullsh!t, because the media and the liberals will continue to accuse conservatives of having an inherent slant against minorities no matter what Lott or any Republican does.
George W. Bush allowed Colin Powell to have a prominent speaking role at the Republican convention in 2000. That move really paid off when Bush got 9% of the black vote. Particularly pathetic when you consider that he probably would have gotten 5% of the black vote even if a KKK grand wizard had addressed the GOP convention.
It's time for the Republicans to simply ignore irrelevant voters and stop giving a damn about what their "representatives" think. Nobody in Maxine Waters' district would ever cast a vote for Trent Lott even if he were the last candidate on the planet, so who gives a sh!t what they say about him.
And anyone who cast a vote in the U.S. Senate in favor of acquitting Bill Clinton in 1998 should be treated as a useless, unprincipled @sshole. In public. On talk radio shows, television interviews, etc.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Hume, but Senator Daschle's opinion on this matter means absolutely nothing to me because he has already shown that he has no standards anyway."
I have two comments: First, that is not my perception at all. Before this, Lott has uniformly been the single most villified Republican here, short of McCain.
Second, I am sick and tired of the victimization posts. They run along the lines of "I can't believe FR supports . . ." or "So many people on FR say . . ." or "I've been called a *insert insult* for supporting/opposing . . . ."
Yeah, people disagree with you. Maybe the whole world does. Suck it up.
If the reason is that, as the Pres. said, Trent has identified himself with a position that is both immoral and anachronistic, then Trent should go.
If the reason is that the Dems are whining about it, Trent should stay.
If the reason is that Trent is an idiot and should go, then let him stay a WHILE to prove a point, then remove him.
I think, based on the President's response in Philly today, that the Dems better watch their step. They may well get Chester, but in the process, they may re-make Bush's image as a champion of civil rights that they will never overcome.
Who's being funny?
Seems to me that open-borders globalists do everything in their
power to make any discussion of immigration a "racist" issue.
'twould appear you really don't know much about the Republican party. Are you, perhaps, a Democrat or a Canadian?
I'll try to explain it to you. I have opposed Lott as Republican Leader from the gitgo.
However, Lott is our problem. What happens to Lott should be up to republicans, not the New York Times and the democrat destruction machine.
If Lott embraces segregation and racism then we should insist he resign from the senate.
However, he has stated numerous times that he rejects those positions of the past.
So, I'm taking him at his word on that and I'm rejecting the notion that we should jettison Lott at this time. Later would be okie dokie but not now.
Well, I see your point, the decision shouldn't come as a result of caving to the Democrats, but I really would love to see Lott go. Not the strongest representative of conservatives, by a long shot.
It's easy to be outraged when you are not challenged to do what you would require of others. However, that time has come.
What conservatives say the liberals should have done with Byrd, we should now do with Lott. Or we should shut the heck up.
In fact, any Conservative or Republican who thinks Lott should be removed because some African-American politicians are "offended" (as if anything could offend those guys) should immediately look up the instructions for seppuku and follow through!
We don't need you!
Excuse me, but, it was the Democrats who were the segregationists back in 1948. The Dixiecrats were Democrats disenfranchised with their party platform. It was the Democrat Party that opposed Civil Rights in the 1940's, 1950's and 1960's, not the Republicans.
Isn't it ironic that the very same political party that was actually guilty of racism and segregation in those times, is wagging the accusatory finger today?
It is political correctness that is being shoved down this nation's throats when the biggest practioner of "PC" ignores the atrocities of its own membership but applies it only where it deems it to fit it's agenda.
