Cracker Barrel Taken to Task for Pro-Homosexual Policy Change
(AgapePress) - A pro-family activist says a major restaurant chain has caved in to political correctness and will now grant special status to employees based on their bedroom behavior.
The board of directors of Cracker Barrel has voted to add the term "sexual orientation" to the company's anti-discrimination policy. The unanimous vote occurred late last month following a shareholder meeting. In a report from the American Family Association, Cracker Barrel spokeswoman Julie Davis is quoted as saying she expects no impact on the day-to-day business -- because the company already has in place a policy that prohibited discrimination in the workplace.
According to the AFA report, Davis says the directors had previously refused to adopt sexual orientation into its policy because they believed it "covers what needs to be covered, and it would be redundant to add [the term] to the policy. The board has taken this position for many years."
Randy Sharp is director of special projects for the American Family Association. He says the about-face this year proves adopting the new policy was never about dealing with discrimination. "Homosexual activists prompted this move to further their agenda," he says. "This was not about equal opportunity employment, but rather the procurement of another feather for their social-restructuring cap."
AFA is encouraging its supporters -- via an Action Alert -- to contact Dan Evins, Cracker Barrel's chairman, and tell him that catering to homosexual activists is "bad business."
"Cracker Barrel directors, by doing something they think is rather innocent, are going to hurt themselves in the long run because now the homosexual activists have their foot in the door," Sharp says. "They're not going to be satisfied with just non-discrimination -- now they're going to demand domestic-partner benefits, which will drive up insurance costs for all employees at Cracker Barrel."
Sharp says when he talked to Davis, she would not clarify if the "sexual orientation" policy change would include pedophilia, bestiality, or the many other forms of deviant sexual behavior. He says that puts Cracker Barrel in a precarious situation.
"What will happen if a homosexual waiter decides to show up for work in a waitress' dress because of his sexual orientation?" Sharp asks. According to their policy, he'll be waiting on tables -- and that's certainly not going to be good for business."
Cracker Barrel is owned by the Tennessee-based CBRL Group, which also owns and franchises Logan's Roadhouse restaurants.
