[history]
Ladies and Gentlemen,
As you can see, we have had another visit from this pest. We go through this every day, generally several times.
When we dust him immediately, we get people telling us we should leave them for people to tear into. When we don't, we get people telling us to get this crap off of FR and to "not have another repeat of yesterday's nonsense".
I have decided to hijack this thread and use it to get opinions. What do you all think? Should this troll be nuked each time he shows up, or should we let him post?
This won't be a vote per se. Only one vote counts- Jim's. However, here is your chance to argue one way or the other. If you are persuasive, maybe you will get your way.
Thanks, AM

"BOT GOT ZOT" If you've never listened to "Boo got shot", it's a riot.
It should be on Boortz' website: www.boortz.com

On a case by case basis, the Moderators might consider choosing the more humorous lefty posts and moving them to the Smokey Back Room. Same goes for other more controversial posts like the tin foil threads. Freepers are good at refuting most bizarre claims and those who don't want to see it don't venture back there. Those who participate in those threads can't go boo-hooing off to the Moderator every time they get their feelings hurt. Try it and if it causes too many headaches, quit, reassess and look for a different policy.

It has signed back up. Somebody should do a check before names like this are approved. Also maybe publish their IP Address when identified as a DUer. That could be fun.

Gee, I wish that some of the disruptors would be allowed to stay, if only so that we have a chance to show off to these DUmbsters some of the outstanding conservative creative talent that frequents FreeRepublic.
If they're just a post-and-run Troll, then, by all means, hammer them. But if they stay to argue .. to, at least, try to stand their ground and compete in our sandbox, then let them stay (at least until they reach the "so's your old man" level of argument).
Besides which, it's fun to watch Dighton hammering them in Latin, Norwegian, Esperanto, Congolese, and whatever other language posts he can dredge up that remotely pertain to the subject being discussed.

thanks for the links. I am digesting things now.
first off - I assume you placed the red-nation/blue-nation map on the "bush States" thread(?) At least I now clearly understand what the whole "red-nation" reference means.
second - I assume you are responsible for the "absolut impotence" graphic? BWA-HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Ohhh, Lordy!
third:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/801376/posts dpl's reply #13... what was not very nice about it? so far, that is the one and only example of this nimrod responding to replies.
So far, I think the argument of greatest merit is that which supports the universally applied summary and swift "ZOT!"
I am continuing.
thanks again.

Yes, when the mood hits me I augment the threads the troll posts. :-)

Yep.

It was some made up song lyrics (to "God Bless America") that featured the following line several times (referring to President Bush):
God save America... from this a**hole.

Are we voting? I like the way you handle it right now: hijack the thread, cut the heart out of the troll's post, and leave the thread in place so we can pile on.
To: Admin Moderator
Ah. thus the deletion and subsequent ZOT! je comprend tout. merci.

I have no problem at all with allowing DU type posters on FR. They are highly educational in that they keep before all the mentality we are up against which is not much. As for them being "disruptors", that is not a realistic term for them at all. How can they "disrupt" forum like this? They cannot remove or change a post or another's reply; they cannot infect another's computer with a virus; they do not prevent anyone from seeing any posting; they do not have to be replied to. They can be IGNORED by those readers who are offended by them and they can be engaged and goaded by those of us who enjoy taking them on. And some of them who hang around actually learn something about debate. When such learn to think about their slogans their confidence in their own dogma must erode and they begin to lose effectiveness for their own side.

I like the idea of leaving them up for a bit, especially if things are slow. But, if the scumbag doesn't answer a serious question or two after 20-40 replies regarding their post - - toast 'em.
To: Admin Moderator
I'd say let them do their thing; they must be amazed at how quickly they get busted...and bettered! Then they can slink back to Headquarters and report another failure.
To: Admin Moderator
Read the "truly" thread.
those few responses were the best it could muster?
not worthy.
DPL (or "insert name of day here") is unworthy of the bandwidth. DPL is an uncharitable charicature of its ilk... impossible for me to say anything to make it a bigger ass than it has itself already done.
My final vote: Nuke it till it glows, then shoot it in the dark.

Thanks for pinging me. Yep, the li'l critter does seem to be persistent. I stand by my comment about the equivalent to the London squires and ladies who would go out to Bedlam to watch the antics of the inmates -- these posts do have amusement value, in a twisted sort of way. And they obviously generate interest.
In that, it is sad that a thread about frivolous/psychotic stuff will generate 100+ responses, but often serious discussion threads (mine or other people's) will generate a third of that. Reminds me of the way folks will slow down and rubberneck on the expressway after a crash has occurred.
But if the FreeRepublic decision is to ban this poster, do you have a way to track back on the Internet and ban him/her/it from the source? Otherwise, as you note, the new filings will be chronic.
Cheers, (and thank you for your demanding work)

That's an EXCELLENT suggestion, my friend, leave such posts up, but flag them with a rat in a circle/slash for "No Rats." I'll go you one better. JimRob, with the assistance of the Admin Moderators, should also have a favorable flag for threads and articles. When they believe that a particular article, or the comments on it, or both, are well worth the time of FReepers to read and participate in, they could put up a big blue star next to the head of that thread.
Also, make those stars searchable, like the listing in the back of every TV Guide that let's readers know where and when all the four star movies are being broadcast, that week. If FR does that, FReepers in a hurry wanting to make best use of limited time, can click up just the "Star Threads" and be certain of good reading and intelligent company.
I do not, of course, suggest that the "No Rats" threads should be similarly searchable. There aren't many of them, and they don't deserve the recognition, just as TV Guide doesn't break out the movies so bad that they earned zero stars.
