Posted on 12/05/2002 11:33:54 AM PST by republicman

If you were listeing a caller to Rush asked is he was a Kook.

the Issues were

1. Do you think Wyoming and another state (I forgot which one the caller said) should secede? (no)

2. Do you think taxes are too high? (Yes)

3. Do you think women should be allowed into combat? (yes)

4. Are you bothered by Miss black America contests and such, because a white Miss America contest would be called racist? (No????)

You've got to listen more. The "you people" statement is a joke based on Ross Perots' comment at the NAACP when he (Ross) was running for president. Ross said something about how bad crime was "but, I don't have to tell you people about it." It has been a Rush staple ever since.

It's like ditto heads. People think when a caller calls and starts out by saying mega dittos they are saying they agree with everything Rush says. That's not what it means. Years ago a caller called and wanted to get to the meat of the call so instead of saying the usual "I am a long time listener and fan and I love you and I enjoy your show but. . ." the caller simply said "Ditto what the previous caller said and. . ." The practic came in wide use by many callers and now long time listeners are called ditto heads.

Like Rush says, you have to listen, sound bites are not good enough. You really have to listen to understand the show.

This is not what the caller said. He was not talking about secession. He was talking about an effort to have a lot of conservatives/libertarians move to a State with a relatively small number of voters, and by so doing take over political control of that State. This is known as The Free State Project.

Rush's answer to this was very sad.

It was very sad because I only know about The Free State Project because of Walter Williams. He has a link to it among his recommended websites. Rush was effectively saying that his top substitute host is a kook.

This is not meant to be an attack and I don't listen to the Blowfish so I'm curious how he would be considered a solid conservative? Is he in the open border/private property & privacy rights be damned/ free trade at all costs/ crowd? Nowadays, it just seems like a lot of these politicians who are seemingly oblivious to the extreme damage they're doing to this country get a free pass from the likes of Rush et al who refer to them as "solid conservatives" when it should be more like "solid waste".

most of the time he is okay. It's rare that I have to turn his show off...can't say the same for O'Reilly.

I never heard Rush say that about jeans...what a foolish statement (you sure he wasn't kidding). That is the attitude of someone in the blue zone, not the red zone.

How did you get this: "I think Rush was saying that trying to take over a state legislature and secede is just a dumb idea because the likelihood of it happening is so low" from: "4. Are you bothered by Miss black America contests and such, because a white Miss America contest would be called racist?"

Also, why do you think that kooks are "hicks who live in a trailer?" That is the kind of thing that would be said by an elitist northeastern liberal...or perhaps a country club Republican.

You know, a lot of that depends on where (and how) you were raised. If he was raised in small town Missouri (I believe that's correct) then this may have been an attitude cultivated by his parents in his youth that just stuck with him.

Example: I am an independent matron of 47 years who STILL has not pierced my ears. Reason: back when I was a teenager and a friend of mine had the bright idea that we should each pierce ONE ear and split the cost of a pair of earrings, my dad stated in no uncertain terms, "Only Italians, Gypsies, and Loose Women pierce their ears!" I see in retrospect that he was exaggerating for effect . . . but it had the desired effect. He also inoculated me against teenage drinking by lauding the virtues of expensive French wine and imported German beer, thus ensuring that I would NEVER drink anything my pals could afford or obtain . . .

. . . I wonder if my dad and Niccolo Machiavelli were separated at birth. I really do.

Note that you call them "denim dungarees" . . . thus Navy and not hippie attire.

When did the Navy get rid of the bellbottoms? I don't recall seeing any in recent photos. But I'm not very Navy-conscious because my family all "carry dirt to dig holes in" - strictly Army with a couple of Marines thrown in for effect, except for Uncle Henry Augustus who was paymaster on Dewey's flagship at Manila Bay.

You know, I usually criticise people for incorrect grammar, but this is just too much. I mean, I don't even know what you're trying to say!

Rush is interested in preserving the status quo, because the status quo is being very good to him. That's Rush's
agenda. If you're a conservative whose beliefs threaten the status quo then you're a "kook".
